So, while attempting to swap the magnets around to get a humbucking middle position on my LP Junior Special I encountered a problem. The wires that go into the coil section of the pickup have pulled out!

Now, I have to either get this fixed (I can't do this myself and I'm not sure of a local fix either) or I need suggestions for a replacement bridge pup.

I would like humbucking operation somewhere on this guitar. Either the bridge pup itself or in the middle selector position.

Help?

Pictures please.
There's always a chance it could be fixed, though it might not be easy.
Is this a newer LPJ?

CAREFULLY, & SLOWLY, pull the tape loose around the bobbin, I can see coil wire on the black lead, it's pretty fine wire, see if you can locate 2 wires like this under the tape.
It's easy to break, so take your time, use a mag glass if needed, & lots of light. Keep an eye on the back of the tape, it might be stuck there.

If you really did fubar the thing by pulling the start wire out from under the coil, you'll need it rewound. No big real to rewind a P-90, and it shouldn't cost you much.

If you can still find the start lead of the coil, you might be able to save it if you can work surgically with a soldering iron. Feel free to hit me up for a walk-through on that, if needed.

First off, good luck on getting your pickup working again...

Now, back to the original issue you were trying to address, getting a "humbucker" configuration in the middle position. Flipping the magnet will only get you half way there. To get two single coil pickups into a true "humbucker" configuration, one of the pickups must be REVERSE WOUND and REVERSE POLARITY (This is the RWRP you will often see in the description of Strat pickup sets). The magnet flip will only get you the reversed polarity part. It does NOT give you the reverse wind part.

Many winders offer sets that provide RWRP. However, the Gibson P90's, AFAIK, are all wound the same. So, if you cannot restore the pickup yourself and decide to have it rewound, you could request it be wound reverse from the Gibson standard.
