I think a lot of people are missing the joke here...

Yes, at the risk of sounding egocentric, his post sounds like he is poking fun at people like me, who have complained about our newly purchased LP's imperfections. One person's problem can be another person's enjoyable challenge and yet another person's nightmare. I still don't think it's expecting too much to not have to tighten nuts and be able to open a plastic battery compartment after spending 1-2k on a guitar. In fact, for that money, these are details that should be quality controlled from the factory. They're basic stuff that should be right 100% of the time, as far as I am concerned. Still enjoying my Trad Pro II, none the less, and am grateful for the after the sales care I am getting at GC.

Peace

John,

This thread is pure Satire. and probably has nothing to do with you. Not sure why you think it is but let me be a little more descriptive of the jokes in my original post:

Joke 1) This is addressed the person buys a Les Paul over the internet and bitches online about the "Set up". People need to know that every guitar you buy should be set up for YOUR playing style. Setting it "as low as possible" is probably not right for about 50% of players out there. Also, people drop off their guitar at their "Luthier" and tell them to "set it up". This is like buying an expansive suit, dropping it off to a tailor and saying "make it fit me" without going thru a proper fitting/measuring session. Or better yet, dropping the suit off and telling your tailer to make the suit as short as possible.

Joke #2: is addressed at the people who complain about a spec that is supposed to be. Perfect example: A customer buys a Historic Les Paul and bitches about the FLAW, and shoddy workmanship of the maple top peeking thru the binding in the cutaway area. They usually post a thread on here titled something like": GIBSON QUALITY SUCKS!

Joke #3: is targeting the folks who compare their lacquer guitars to poly finished guitars. They usually like to compare apples to oranges and they ALWAYS say that their poly guitar cost X amount less than the Gibson.

Seriously psychojohn, dont take it personally, hang out more and you will learn so much and you will see plenty of alarmist posts from customers that need a little more info before shooting internet bullets. On the other hand, if you really have an issue many of us want to help you out and make sure you are happy. There are so many helpful guys here, helpful Gibson guys included.

I agree expensive guitars shouldn't have the problems these 'Prestiges' guitars have.

They can be avoided by not buying them.

There are many companies who make cheaper guitars, better.

And there's always PRS guitars if you want stunning and flawless.

Gibson gets away with it because people let them get away with it.

Gibson makes money hand over fist from Collectors,...they seem to have stopped worrying about the people that actually play them a long time ago.

Also this thread rocks. :dude:

When I'm not chronically masturbating in my basement room at my parents house I'm out blowing off Ferrais in my Saturn. I could have had the 308 but the Saturn was the much better car. I have to join the Italian Ferrari owners forum and tell all of them in my broken Italian .because I'm sure they need to know.

I have an American car. I got loud mufflers to drown out the rattles and squeaks.

When ever I'm in a funk... The sound of gear driven cams and a NASCAR side oiler will usually bring me around...

Old man Enzo Ferrari said of the E-Type Jag "The most beautiful car ever made"

Especially one in British Racing Green. :thumb:

the only problem I have with this is..

here in America, the color "Green" is considered "serious bad luck" for round track racing cars...

along with haveing Peanuts in the pits, the number 13 on a car. putting a ford motor in a chevy chassis and a only few hundred more...

Ferrari CEO Wants the Brand to Become More Exclusive and Focus Less on Growing Sales - Carscoops

Ferrari’s range today is larger than ever, with the Maranello plant making no less than five six: the California, 458 Italia, 458 Spider, F12 Berlinetta, FF and soon, the range-topping LaFerrari.

The Italian carmaker sold 7,318 cars last year, a record for the company and 50 percent more than in 1991, when Luca di Montezemolo became Ferrari CEO.

However, there’s a thin balance between sales and exclusiveness, and Ferrari’s boss certainly knows it.
“My focus this year and in the years to come is not to grow volume but to increase the exclusivity of Ferrari. This protects our margins and residual values for our customers,” di Montezemolo said in an interview with Automotive News Europe.

Montezemolo explained that Ferrari’s finances could continue to improve even if unit sales are static, provided that profit margins are increased. He said Ferrari aims for a profit margin of around 15 percent this year, following 14.4 percent last year and 14.1 percent in 2011.

Making Ferrari cars more exclusive is a way to reach this target, but how is that possible for a brand that already is a benchmark for exclusiveness? Di Montezemolo has the answer: “On average, a customer adds options worth 25,000 euros, which is 10 percent of the retail price. Another way to personalize a Ferrari is our Tailor-Made program, which adds 50,000 euros on average. This results in more personalized, more unique cars that keep a higher residual value over time.”

If that’s not exclusive enough for some customers, Ferrari also offers its Special Projects program. Montezemolo said the SP division made “about” 10 cars so far, although only four were made public, with Eric Clapton’s SP12 EC, John Walson’s P540 Superfast Aperta and Peter Kalikow’s 45 Superamerica being three of these one-off models. “Some collectors do not want to make their one-offs public,” Montezemolo explained the secrecy surrounding these unique cars.

Forgot to mention another of my aesthetically pleasing cars was the Ford GT-40.

Won Le Mans 24 hour race four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969.

Grand Touring/Gran Turismo looker that was only 40 inches tall!

Forty Inches by gawd!!!

Yer bum cheeks were practically on the tarmac. What a car. :thumb:

I used to work for the guy who owns this particular GTO. While he was having a garage built on his property to house his car collection, this Car was stored at out plant in a bay right next to my office.

Here's a photo with a few of his other cars

I am guessing "speed cam detector" man James Jaeger - since he was the last guy I was aware listed against old 3765LM, which he bought in about '85. I only know this because Mike Parkes raced her at Le Mans in '62 when she was a Scuderia Ferrari car (Mike also raced 4399GT for the Colonel at Maranello the year after - and just a couple of years before my Uncle bought her.....)
