new month, time to pay bills. going to make some changes and it's going to suck a little bit but life will go on. canceling unnecessary subscriptions. Hulu went up to 18 dollars last month. Gone. Next is a bunch of Apple subscriptions. I'm really going to miss Apple Music. I'll probably cave on that one but I want to try to skip it for a couple months. They went up from 9.99 to 10.99. Have a cloud storage that I'm not even close to needing, buh bye boyo. There was one other thing, dipped if I can remember. The gym membership I'm still on the fence about. I'm not going because of the hip but it can be helpful in my recovery. Chances are, the perpetual 10 dollars a month thing could still be around when I do finally get cleared for full range of motion.

The big one will be Amazon Prime. While I'm not buying as much stuff these days, I use it for essentials like batteries, hygiene stuff. Free shipping is nice but I don't know if I'm using 140 dollars worth of shipping a year anymore. I barely watch Amazon Prime Video except for Thursday night football. My renewal is December 25. If I cancel, I'll only miss 2, maybe 3 games max. The money from that will help pay a good bit of my car insurance.

Yeah these things need to be done from time to time, I had a big cutback session a while back, one of the things was to eat out less, a lot less, I am not bothered about it anymore and see it as a frivolous thing. The Mrs doesn’t agree and just goes out without me with her friends. Lol.

I've already cut going out to eat and/or drink beer. That's hundreds a month easy. It's almost impossible to eat without spending 30 dollars, I don't economize like Steve C and go to space #6, LOL. Two draft beers with tip is 20 bucks, a 12 pack is 4-5 dollars less and I can make it last 2 weeks. Plus saving money on gas and keeping the miles down on the car. Saved 5% on my car insurance for having low mileage.

Instead of watching Hulu, I'll be watching guitar lesson videos and playing along. I'll be an old hermit but fuck it.

Giving YouTube TV a try, as DirectTV jumping to $94 a month starting the 5th.

Jerk-wads.... a hundred bucks a month was the reason I cut the cable in the first place.

"Due to rising costs of providing you with quality entertainment."
Right.
Everything's loaded with commercials, the program guide is glitchy... fuck ya'.

A lot of shows I like that Hulu had that I enjoyed are no longer on there. I'm cutting it off soon.

I think you'll be happy with YTTV.

I’ve posted elsewhere about my 20 year history with DIRECTV, and how it came to a screeching halt after AT&T bought them out.
Congratulations DIRECTV, you’ve driven me completely out of television.
I hauled it out to the curb, and gave it away.

A friend of mine was visiting a couple weeks ago, and they have YouTube TV.
He seems pretty happy with it, and we think along the same lines, so I might give it a try.
I just hate giving my money to any of these assholes.

And as the OP stated, it’s the incremental “small” costs that add up to destroy your discretionary income possibilities.

My wife is fully aware of this, yet she still has all sorts of subscriptions and costs and fees that constantly demand her attention - and our funds.

TUBI is free and carries some Classic movies and some musical gems.
It's not the best interface but it's free!
No credit card bullshit either.

I've been wanting to cancel cable TV for the last few years as i watch nothing but YouTube videos, either on my phone or the TV. My wife has been against it as all her goofy reality programs she'd miss.... now that she is out of work she realizes that we need to get rid of cable tv.

We did a big purge during the Rona...

Dumped cable. Got YTTV. Love it. Don't miss a thing about cable, and saved >$100/month.

Downsized cell phone plans, and saved about $50/month,

Downsized Netflix to the $7/mo plan, from $22/month. Yea, we get commercials, so what?

We rotate through the other streamers each month, so the cost is always only around $10.

Most of our disposable spend is on food. We like to eat out, and we do so several days each week. And, no. Not just to shit places (McD's, etc.) either - LOL Usually we enjoy a couple breakfasts or lunches, and one or two nice dinners every week.
