I really, really like the look of the, "Open window," Probuckers that are on the Blackback LP. I'm just not a big fan of the black back and sides. I much prefer the look of the 100th Anniversary LP with the Natural finish.

Looking at the Epiphone website it appears that unlike Gibson they don't sell the Epi pickups directly.

So is there any way to get them? Or would I just have to keep looking at ebay and hope that someone replaces their open window pickups and sells them?

I suppose this would be an open question, too, regarding any Epi pickups in general and how to get them.

Thanks!

Keep watching ebay.

I will say that Seymour Duncan has black open coils with gold pole pieces. That might be an option, especially if you have the tools to make the partial covers. I had considered this with one of my guitars but haven't gotten around to attempting it.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to do that.

I'm just hoping that before too long Epiphone realizes that their new pickups are pretty darned good and could sell on their own just like the Gibson pickups do. Just price them 40% or so less than the Gibsons and they would sell and would still be profitable for them.

I like the ProBuckers, though, and would prefer to stick to that sound.

That Open Window look sure is sweet, too. Perfect for that Natural finish.

I also wouldn't mind trying the new Ceramic Plus pickups - if they only sold them separately!

Open Humbucker Pickup Cover - Gold

Links are always good.... :thumb:

That would definitely solve the cover issue. It would still be nice if there were a way to get the pickups you wanted as new items through regular dealers.

Is it just me, or is Epiphone dropping the ball on this one (not a big ball, but still, with the appreciation that the new Epi pickups are getting I would think that they could actually sell these pickups as aftermarket items if the price were right).

Good post.

I like several of Epiphone's newer pickups and would consider buying them if they were available aftermarket.

One of the appeals of the Epiphone brand is value for money, so they would have to be priced accordingly, but I think Epiphone could sell their Pro90's, Probuckers and Alnico Classics at a price slightly higher than GFS and they'd sell like hotcakes.

Hopefully someone at Epiphone and/or Gibson reads these forums and wouldn't mind injecting a little extra REVENUE into the company... ;)

Another link to where you can find the open window covers. Price point isn't bad, and I've ordered from these folks before for other things and their customer service is very good.

Philadelphia Luthier Tools & Supplies, LLC - Search Results for "open window pickup cover"

As far as Epi pickups go, I wish they would offer them after-market as well. But I think used is the only way to score them.

They are the same seller from my link. +1 on excellent customer service. I've had no complaints with any of the tools or accessories purchased from them.

A+

What are the odds that when I get a Les Paul 100th Anniversary guitar that under the pickup covers it has zebras instead of just black? (We've all read about people taking off the covers to find zebras.)

If both coils are black then just changing the window cover works, if not... Bummer.

There is a good chance that they are zebra, and you don't have to remove the cover to find out.
