Damn I don't even bother with glue. Toothpick alone does the trick but glue is probably a good idea, lol.

If used with care, use Gorilla glue for this application. I have personally done this exact repair with toothpicks using both regular wood glue or the gorilla glue. Believe me the gorilla glue is like nothing else. It's is actually activated by water so you slightly dampen the toothpicks and this glue wicks into the surrounding wood making a permanent and strong repair. This stuff will basically fuse everything together when dry and makes a great material to thread into with the self tapping screw creating all new threads. You literally use only a pin head size drop of the gorilla glue as it expands during curing so use sparingly! Don't worry about the soft wood of the tooth picks because once the gorilla glue wicks into them they are definitely hard wood then to say the least.

I was in the grocery and found wood skewers. Made for shish-kabobs and stuff. They are much larger than toothpicks and look to be hardwood.
I'd try one in a hole with wood glue (Elmers, Gorilla) and re-drill a pilot hole.

I answered this post almost two years ago..
I bet I've put 10 mahogany dowels in various guitars since then.
Most were 1" x 3/8" & were vintage 50 year mahogany from great grandpa's stash of furniture goodies, Glued in place with titebond left 24 hours to dry & then redrilled, Once installed they are as good or better than new & completely hidden under the strap button, even the itty bitty ones gibson used to use..

can we just stick a toothpick in this hole and close up the thread? Dab some glue if you want.

But they are all answers to the wrong question.

The OP is asking how to fix a stripped screw, not the screw hole.

My suggestion would be to just replace the screw, unless it's a vintage 59, then I would let it be and just play sitting down. :hmm:

Your interpretation of the OP's question is open to interpretation. :naughty:

You don't even need the glue. Just the toothpick.
