Hey guys,

Title says is all really. I was wondering if it were possible to find out any info on my guitar (Gibson obviously) via its serial number?

When looking for some info on a Fender Stratocaster of mine, I simply emailed Fender with the serial number and they replied back with various details (year, spec etc) they had on the guitar in question.

I was just wondering if I could do anything similar with my Gibson?

And, if so, where should I email? I have taken a look on the Gibson website and can only really find the 'Talk to Us' section. Would this be the best place to try? I tried this section a while back regarding another issue and never received a reply, and so I was wondering whether there might be another 'actual' email address I would be best to try?

Thanks for any info guys

Russ :)

It's quite easy to do yourself. The first and 5th numbers indicate the year of production (for example, if the first number is 0 and the 5th number is 4, then the guitar was made in 2004). The 2nd, 3rd and 4th numbers indicate the day the guitar was made (for example, 345 would mean the 345th day of the year. The rest of the numbers I believe indicate the production number of the guitar. Hope that helps :).

If you need info on specs, you'd have to call Gibson with the S/N.

Go to : "Gibson Serial Number Decoder" on the net.

Keep in mind though that if/when you're looking at a fake, this is not a good tool for determining whether or not it is one.

Yes, Talk to Us works. I used that contact info to get info based on serial no. a few weeks ago. Make sure to confirm your contact info via the link they send.

And 0-300 are reserved for the acoustic shop so subtract 300 from whatever your number is.

Just call or email Gibson with your serial number and they will send you a bunch of info on your guitar.
