Greetings people of the internet!

As this is my first post, I´d like to go into more detail about me but I guess I will take care of that in a later thread, when I´m not almost going crazy.

Quick and simple question:

How serious would you rate this "crack" on the seam between the high gloss body and the satin finished neck of my Prophecy EX

Is it just badly finished gloss, or an actual crack?

Thanks for taking care of me and my baby Q_Q

That looks super dangerous! I would set it on fire and step away from the guitar. I am sure others will have more "helpful" but less "funny" things to add.

Im more of a mid to high action girl.
First guitar ever owned was horrible so I got used to it back in the day.
I have to admit it looks worse than it is though. Bad angle I guess.

2.1 mm; 12th fret

It's hard to tell 100% from the picture, but it looks more like a blemish in the finish more than anything. I don't know if I've ever seen a crack in that spot before either, but what do I know ...

I think you're fine, you could probably buff it out (if it bothers you) with a little polish and elbow grease! ;)

I´m 90% sure its just the gloss seam; but still. Opinions are nice to keep myself from running naked down the street announcing the end.

Thats pretty much as close as I have to get to even get it visible AND its the only spot on the neck showing that problem.
Body/Neck joint look fine, so does the rest of the neck.
Im pretty sure I overreacted completely by now but hey it finally got me to register here, so I´ve got that going for me which is nice :hmm:

On closer inspection it looks to be a sloppy finished gloss/satin seam that chipped a bit.
I guess the guy was a bit tired that day.

Edit: Supported by the fact that even the binding is glossed and untextured on the body side of the "crack". Should´ve look first and then panic next time

Hard to say but it looks pretty minor. I wouldn't worry about it too much and enjoy the guitar.

Definitely looks to be only in the finish.

In the pic, you can clearly see the shadow of the crack on the binding. If it was a full-on crack, the binding itself would most like show some sort of damage, as well.

Btw, Welcome to MLP, Ellie.

Hi Ellie,

I can't be sure with the photo but to me it looks like the finish, nothing deep.
Regarding the action, height is to taste and it depends on the game you play, you can have an ultra low action if you you play arpeggios on a leveled neck and you miht need high actionif you are a hard strummer with a bad fret level job on the neck.
Someone mentionned it because Epiphone factory settings are often crappy with bad relief, action etc...

I would not worry about the ding

Eluyyel,

From the pic you have provided, it appears that it might be just a scratch. Nobody can tell more without examining the guitar. But, on the other hand, there is really no such thing as a "finish crack" in a poly finished guitar like an Epi. That is because the finish is more flexible than the wood itself. So it is theoretically possible to get a crack in the wood of a poly finished guitar and not have it show in the finish -- but not the other way around. One way you can make a determination is to GENTLY pull the neck upward with your hand, while holding the body firmly. If the scratch (or crack) becomes wider, it is a problem. If not, it's just a scratch.

Factory setup was ok - by far not great and I leveled/re-crowned two frets. Nothing to major.
Again my action pretty much comes down to - learned on a shitty guitar with action up into the orbit and just got so used to it that I frequently think more about feel than playing on a low setup neck so I prefer my stuff in the 2mm range on the low strings

Lol, I did not now you'd be aroused by this kind of guy... :p

Your guitar is very nice Ellie, I LOVE the satin neck...you play a lot of metal ? It is the specialty of the EmGs in the Prophecy I believe (81/85)

I'd not put that crack on the same level of dangerous as any of the Kardashian offerings.
