How much should she charge me for a ride to the doctor?

Face it. There are a lot of old farts here. I just started my journey to getting my eye fixed for a cataract. I keep saying: "I'm a one-eyed blind man." My other eye is just that. Blind. My dau-in-law lives 1/2 mile away. She picked me up and took 2 hours out her day to drive me to the doctor. She is the school bus driver that uses her income to finance her daughter in her quest to the 2026 Olympics in Teakwondo (sp). Her husband covers the rest. She is actually kicking ass. She's 16 and one of her parents has to travel with her. The trips to matches are getting more frequent. She told me each trip costs about $2500. :eek2: We were driving back and my dau-in-law told me she will be out of driving a school bus for a few months to have job-related shoulder surgery. That's great for me. I want to help my granddaughter. I'm just not going to give money to her. I figure my dau-in-law is worth about $50 an hour for taking me to my appointments. What say ye?

She settled for a 6-pac of IPA. She was in a hurry to get her dau to another doc appointment. Her name is Melissa.

sounds like she feels funny about taking money from a relative...indicator of a good character.you could always keep track of her time and send her a nice check at christmas.im having that problem with my mom.she wants to pay me for doing little things around her condo.lets face it,i owe her big time so i dont want any money.she lives 60 miles away in an adult community and plays cards 6 days a week,so i dont want to uproot her from all her friends.

Yes and No about feeling "funny". She is really crafty. I mean that with respect. I know she would do this out of pure kindness and love. I also know what a subtle mention means about the cost of "Being the Mom and Dad" of a potential star of a sport that seems limited to lots of wins and glory and then what does she do?

I just did my dad’s trip for cataracts for free. Four trips. Didn’t even charge him gas.

$50/hr sounds generous. I have somewhat the same problem. My right eye is fine, as I had cataract surgery on it a few years back. But the left eye has this problem so bad, I can see only haze. In June I went to the doc and he confirmed that I really needed this procedure. Now here’s the rub. He couldn’t schedule it until October 31! And the left eye being as bad as it is, it is damaging my entire vision. We have a serious labor shortage around here at all levels — that’s the problem. I have another appointment with the doc early next month, and I may complain rather harshly. I have to drive around here, as my wife is recovering from major back surgery, and there is no available public transportation — even if I could stand to use it. I think I will tell him that I want the procedure STAT. Otherwise, if my vision problem causes an automobile accident and I get sued, I’ll be sure to bring him in as a co-defendant. I hope that will work!

I also have my friend "The Produce Guy" from my Safeway that just retired. We talked about my fix. He is more than willing to give me a ride if he can. I am so blessed. If he helps me, he will get some audio goodies. This getting old shit just sucks. I went to the Doc about my "Good eye gone bad". My blind eye just happened to be next to it. He gave me his take on that. It's useless but dangerous. Something about my pupil being stuck to my cornea and fibers and stuff potentially causing severe symptoms of all kinds due to pressure build up and fluid release. That is a separate laser procedure. I keep bragging about all the cheap food-stuff I snag. I'm not sure how long this eye shit will take. I may have to stop driving for a while. As it stands now, I can only drive when it is overcast during daylight. I have enough food to last six months easy. I fell off the wagon for a day. :hippie:

Remember the Fiat 124 Spider they gave me for my birthday? It has been sitting in my carport for two years. I have never driven it. I never got the title transferred. It's still in her name. I just gave it back to her.

If my experience with cataract surgery on my left eye, recovery isn’t very bad. I had to wear an eye patch in the sun and for sleeping just a few days, and put drops in the operated eye for a couple of weeks. But in just a few days, you should be able to function with the operated eye.

Aye. And $50 an hour is like $65 before taxes.

Fett, it’s a scam, there are no Olympics in 2026, (unless the ‘Rona says otherwise).

Seriously, that’s cool, to represent your country is a fine thing.

$50/hr is more than fair.

And it should be a little more than fair.

You're gonna need the help.

$50 an hr seems pretty cheap for someone that doesn’t have time to spell out “daughter”. :laugh2:

Is it necessary to put her on the clock?
If you know you’re gonna help her, and she’s willing to take care of your needs, why not just give her the amount you would if she asked for help?
She sounds like a responsible person, not someone who needs to be taught a valuable lesson or whatever.
