Actually, a fair question.

Lots said about the Gforce, some good, most con.

It would be interesting to get a review of those who have it and gig regularly with it, but are not biased either way.

In other words, folks with both manual tuned guitars and Gforce-equipped instruments that use both onstage on a regular basis.

Tough bill to fill though, wading through the inevitable bias that would show up.

For sure I will get hammered with comments on it - no offense taken to any comments and I'm sure more to come!!!

LtDave - exactly what I'm trying to get at. I don't get a chance to play out often and have this new LP Special Pro with the G Force. If I get feedback some weekend warriors or better take it out, I'm willing to give it a try. It has 1 step down, but I didn't see a half step down so I would need to program that in.

I don't own a guitar with GFORCE, but in a gig situation, I am almost sure I could rely on one.

Upvote from me, but I don't own one yet.

as theres no left handers, fitted with this wonderous invention, Ive been spared the ordeal of finding out how reliable they are. I suspect there not, most electronic gizmo's crap out fairly soon after any warrenty has expired.

I'm still at a loss, what problem do they solve, although they might create a few

I never gigged with them, but I did record a few tracks on their "best of" album. Crazy group... a little flamboyant for my tastes. I'm not really into the whole "Teen Superhero" Pop Rock scene.

I gigged regularly with my Studio that had minE-Tune (the GFORCE predecessor) and never had an issue. It worked flawlessly, even when trying to tune with the house DJ pumping the system during the breaks just before the band would go back onstage.

Did any of the other electronic tools have a hard time in that environment, pedal or Snark style?

I turned my nose up at tuning with anything but a tuning fork and ear until my first 12 string. When I expressed my views as the fellow selling me the guitar asked which tuner I wanted. His reply was to ask me if I wanted to spend my time playing it or tuning it. Now external tuners are accepted ubiquitously.

It's absolutely, 100% unreliable. If you gig with it and haven't had issues, you will.

Heavily biased against, so...I don't own any guitars with it, and would be very unlikely to buy such a guitar, even if I liked it in every other respect.

I have similar feelings about active pickups and other onboard gadgets.

Not encouraging so far, for the ones with it (or now without) - its 50/50 on if the tuner is usable live.
I can't read - it has e flat (1/2 step down). Standard tuning seems pretty good but I'm having trouble with 1/2 step and whole step down. Both the G & B strings are out a bit, its worse on 1/2 step down. I would mainly use standard and 1/2 step down so I'm thinking to order a set of tuners in case of frustration. Maybe I'm doing something wrong when using the non standard tunings.

In order to use it on a job I would have to first buy a guitar that was equipped with the "G" and that will happen when I've grown another set of teeth.

do you own a guitar with gforce? Did it ever happen to you?

Three of them, and each time I tried to live with it for a while. The first was an SG. Wouldn't stay in tune.

Second was a Les Paul Traditional. At practice one night, I tried to retune during a guitar lull in the middle of one of our songs. Didn't finish tuning until the rest of the band had finished the song.

Last was on a Les Paul Special that I got last week, and I just took it off this morning. I tuned, and the E and A strings got locked in some sort of software tuning loop, and detuned to the point that they were floppy. It never stopped, I had to manually stop it.

3 for 3. If you use one, it will fail you.

[EDIT, oh yeah, also the "capo mode" never worked correctly for me. Wasn't user error, just wouldn't reliably tune. Also, wait until you have to change a string on stage. Better have 2 guitars.]

I gig with Gforce and like the system as I play slide in A,D,and E tuning and standard also have a 60's tribute with etune and although it is not as quick as Gforce to tune I have not had any problems with either system. If the electronics do go west on the Gforce it is only $99 from tronical to buy replacement or upgrade from etune to Gforce

I bought a new 2014 to avoid this sort of thing. I used one pedal for years, a wah - wah pedal. I put EMGs on my Strat and the over drive pedal will save you and give you volume should a power failure should happen to your active pups. I am up to the Iron Age and out of the Stone Age. I love gizmos but I don't trust them, as the cost is embarrassment to the max. I do a six pedal thing and two on the way. I never want some THING messing with me strings. I use Fender Fuse and a PC to tuning and the same hamsters for power, no back up hamsters. They got eaten by the bass player, she is from China too.
