How Long Do You Give a Piece of Gear Before You Realize It's Just Not Working?

A week? A month? 2 months? A year?

What's the typical amount of time that you'll give a piece of gear before you realize that you just can't bond with it, and does it depend on the type of gear (guitar to amp, etc.)?

I've had a Fender Mustang II for a little over a month, and I'm just not bonding with it. I haven't had it for nearly as long as I've had my Super Champ XD, but I just feel the XD is a better amp overall. However, I'm just not sure if I'm being premature in judging the amp, given that it's only been a month.

Depends on two things; when I can sell it, and how much profit I'll make off of it.

I usually figure it out on the first day of ownership.

Yeah, if the market is tight I'll hold onto something. That said, I will sell anything at one point or another. I own things, and they don't own me.

Depends on the gear.

Some gear you just can't risk having it fail you at a critical moment. A longsword for example.

Wow, you guys decide a lot faster than I do. :laugh2:

I think I'm actually going to send the Mustang II back and get the III. General consensus is that the III is better, so what have I got to lose? :dunno:

I bought the Fender Mustang IV. Love it, however it's much bigger than I'd expected once I got it into my home office (Damn) & the power!!! WWWAAAAYYYY more than I need for the space that I'm in. I may consider getting either the III or maybe even the II or something else in the Fender Amp Arsenal?
But overall & in more direct to your question - 3 Months max

I've got a short attention span, so like 5 minutes. Then I'll take it back, buy something else, then take that back and re-purchase the piece I originally bought. Anyway....

Amplifiers....very quickly. Within a day.
Guitars....I haven't met one I couldn't love, if I "had" to.

It should be quick and decisive or you will make short term excuses to keep it which in turn will lead to long term buyers remorse. Bring it back (if you can) and find something you like!
