The '59 Les Paul Factory Burst from Gibson Custom captures the essence of a few of the Custom Shop's favorite examples of original '59 Bursts, recreated in loving detail and presented in two exclusive VOS finishes, in a strictly limited run of 200 guitars (100 per finish).

Gibson.com: 1959 Les Paul Factory Burst

Looks like they are trying to capture the essence of a few particular 1959 Les Pauls, to me it doesn't seem all that different from the Collector's Choice editions.

The “57 Classic" Pickups were replaced on the R9 in 2002 with Burstbuckers.
The Custom Buckers use Alnico III bar magnets, and mismatch wound coils.
Neither are stock on an R9, today.
The R9’s use Kluson Tuners, The 1959 Les Paul Factory Burst uses
Gotoh Reissue Green Key Tuners.
It also appears to use an un-aged “White” Switchtip.

You could take your R9 and for about $15 swap the magnet and change the tip and save a bunch of money . Didn't they change the dyes used so that they will fade? Or is that the Cover Burst ? Who knows any more ?:hmm:

just an other Gibson marketing ploy

Ay, but it's this kind of hype that ultimately gets the majority of us to "settle" with R9s or {insert your reissue here}.

It seems the finish is the same as the "Gold book" R9s from 2009, either cherryburst or darkburst. (except these are the horrendeous VOS finish) I assume they are called factory bursts because these were the two factory colors used in 1959. The other finishes, washed cherry, iced tea, maple leaf, lemon, and on and on into the night, were not original factory finishes in the 50s.

If their color is anything like the first 500 R9s from 2009, they are gorgeous. (once the polishing is completed by the customer) They ARE R9s.

So does Gibson use Kluson tuners now? All the Reissues I have owned used Gotohs. Has the spec changed recently? (I think I remember that they started using Tonepros on reissues since 2009, which are owned by Kluson, and made by Gotoh, IIRC) The Burstbuckers are mismatched coils (the 57 Classics are not) and, I suspect the only real difference between BB1/2 vs "custom pickups" is ONLY the magnet.

"The guitars finished in Factory Cherry Burst carry '57 Classics with zebra coils under VOS-aged nickel covers, while the Factory Dark Burst guitars have Custom Buckers with VOS-aged nickel covers."

Whatever the method, if they are the Custom Buckers used by Wildwood then they will definitely sound different from the BB1/2 pups.

Epiphone and Gibson USA both list Gotoh Kluson Style Tuners in their Specifications.
The Custom Shop doesn’t list a manufacturer in their Specs. Since about 2007, it has
been mentioned in the Gibson Forum and the GearPage, that the Custom Shop used
the actual Kluson Brand Tuners, which would be the WD Music Product TonePros Kluson
Branded Tuners, made in Korea by Ping. I would tend to believe it, as this is published on
2.gibson.com.:

TonePros Kluson Vintage-Style Tuners
The Les Paul Traditional is outfitted with Kluson-style tuners from TonePros, which are made
to look identical to the vintage tuners found on earlier Les Pauls. These new tuners offer
world-class performance while retaining the classic look and feel of one of the most popular
and most copied—tuners of all time.

Nothing would surprise me…as I have often said, the only thing consistent about Gibson,
is their inconsistency.

Yep, A3 magnets sound quite different from A2 magnets.

Shouldn't these sound close to the Page Burstbuckers? Those were also AL3 busrstbuckers. Perhaps the winding was different but it's possible it wasn't.
