All the seconds I've ever held were heavy as hell. What does yours weigh in at?

Maybe that explains some of them.. I don't remember if every single second I've picked up was heavy, but a lot of them were. By heavy I mean more than 10lbs.

Yeah, definitely more than 10 pounds. This can't be narrowed down to just the seconds though as I've held non-seconds that were oddly heavy as well. But makes you wonder. :hmm:

That seems to be the common explanation for seconds... I've personally never seen a second that I could find anything wrong with, let alone a finish or wood flaw.

Often Gibson would stamp the "2" on it if it was a gift to a musician or other person so that they could not get full resale on it.

They haven't stamped 2 on guitars for quite a while now, so all of the seconds floating around a pretty old, so any cosmetic flaws are long past the point of being noticeable. I've played quite a few Gibson seconds and I've never noticed any difference in how they feel or play, they've all been fine as far as I can remember.

The only thing is that it may knock a little off the resale value - I know that if I was looking to buy a guitar and it was stamped second then I'd try to use that to knock a few dollars off the price!

That's a good point to the people who get the story...

For the rest it would be: "So what?" :)

I said that I'd try, I don't know if it would work or not. The market is so down over here that people are practically having to give guitars away at the moment anyway. I guess the point I was making is that I seriously doubt that there's any discernible difference now between an old and any other older guitar.
