How are the new Studios? Better than the Tributes?

If you want a full featured Gibson Les Paul with a little bit thicker body which can give it a little bit beefier tone, go with the Les Paul Classic. If you want an even beefier tone, you can go with the Les Paul Custom that comes with the 490R/498T pickup combination and the Customs start to have this growl to there tone that only a Custom seems to get, because of the heavier/thicker body I am thinking.

I began to notice "weight tone" when I moved from lighter superstrats, like Charvel DKs, to heavier guitars, like ESP LTDs, about a year ago. I've gone from loathing weight to loving it. The growl is exactly what I love about 498s - I didn't know that Customs came with them. An LP Custom Honeyburst with 490/498 is pretty close to my ideal guitar.

Never thought of getting a Tribute and or faded...whatever, and adding gloss finish after. Not a bad idea.
They turned out nice. Chicago Fretworks does great work

I also have the 2010 60s Tribute Studio with P-90s. Its really a special guitar. I really love the bite and growl the P-90s deliver. The tribute is rock solid as well - its always in tune and has a robust feel. I have a 2020 Standard but I secretly grab my 60s Tribute most of the time . . shhhhh . . don't tell my Standard this :)

The current Tributes have maple necks and ultra modern weight relief. My 2013 has a mahogany neck and 9-hole relief. It weighed 9.2 lbs. With the Les Trem II it weighs 9.6 lbs. I have made a few modifications to it...
