Blimey! Just as Redbull got back into competing again in F1 with the new Honda engine they're pulling the plug to concentrate on zero emissions technology, Honda to cease engine supplies after next season:eek2:

"TOKYO -- Honda will end its participation as an engine supplier in the FIA Formula One World Championship at the end of the 2021 season to focus on zero-emissions technology, it said on Friday." https://europe.autonews.com/automake...ons-technology

Maybe F1 will move away from V6 engines that sound like dentist drills.
Or figure out a way to actually race. A race without passing is just a parade.
Or move to tracks that are appropriately sized for those giant F1 buggies.

I did like the Cosworth V8's though...

Agreed, I read somewhere that Cosworth were interested in a return to supplying engines for F1 if the Hybrid side of things went away, I cant find anything regards the Indy 500 series though, Doesn't Honda power half the field in that series?

One word: Elon!

They might have to go cap in hand to electric jesus as RedBull & Torro Rosso have burned their bridges with engine suppliers Renault & Mercedes & I doubt they'll go knocking on Ferrari's door as their engine is not up to speed, Formula-e it is then. :thumb:

Indy 500?
ain't that one of those races where you can't pass and everybody has the exact same equipment? Meh.

Having to actually build a car is the ONE thing F1 gets right.

I read about this yesterday. Honda talked to Red Bull in Aug about it. Seems they spent 750 Million and would have to do the same in 2026 when the PU's change again.

Red Bull will have a PU in 2022.. the Renault. There's a clause that states that no team will be left without a PU and the team that supplies the least number of competitors has to supply it.. that's Renault. Let's have a shot gun wedding folks.

As for Indy car.. I think Honda will stay in. The cost of producing the engines isn't as high as it is for F1. The issue with F1 is the cost.. it's high and with the upcoming change in 2026 Honda doesn't want to do it. Plus the return on the investment isn't all that good for Honda

Verstappen is screwed for sure.
However, the Renaults are doing pretty well.
Redbull will not be any worse if they purchase a Renault engine

So true... they have improved but how much is that due to Ricardo?

Honda builds amazing race engines, apparently.I am no expert, but the R&D that goes into that translates to consumer grade engines, at least the ones i have owned, i think.
If honda it sets its mind(and resources) to near zero emissions,i would think only good things can come from that focus.Heads up Elon.

btw, three Honda V6 motors later,i love my Honda motors...so i am biased.Mine have performed flawlessly,25 years hands on here, with regular maintenance.Never an issue!
5W20 motor oil is a must year round.Smooth as silk, with acceleration to spare. So smooth as to be slightly unreal.(to compare,my 2.5 4 banger ford mustang motor was a piece of crap.)
Yeah,had a 452 V8 in a ...forgot the model...wait,a Buick Wildcat.reliability was a huge issue.Sounded nice when it worked,however.

That ratty snorting ripping sound out of my current 15 year old Pilot when i step on the gas is a thing of beauty!...and reminiscent of the Cart series motors i have heard.signature sound...and it pins me back in my seat, like a sling shot, even though i am hauling ass in a 5,000 lb vehicle. The motor is barely broken in.All my maintenance has been in mechanical undercarriage.

+1
Toyota/Lexus
Honda/Acura

I hesitate to add Nissan with their CVT issues.
