How's the weather?
Why do you ask Freddy? ;-)

School is cancelled here so I'm gonna wait about an hour and get my daughter out of bed to shovel the snow/ rain.

Cheers Peter.

PS - looks a lot nicer than here -

Simply because I wanted to hear it from the horse's mouth. Also it's just a social "opening of the door" for conversation....maybe he'll point out something that I didn't know. I could have googled a weather report...it's just not quite as satisfying as a convo with a friend who has gone to a new and potentially interesting place.

Sorry, I was just commenting on how ridiculous the weather in our location has been for the last few days. I too am interested, and envious, regarding Chris' work trip. Please do elaborate, Chris. South America is on my bucket list.

Cheers Peter.

LOL. Actually the weather here is gorgeous today. Quite a difference from what we've been living with (suffering is a better description) up in the northeast states and canada :)

I'm about 185 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, and its slightly warmer. Upper 70's and clear blue skies. Cielo azul :)

Pablo, la comida está bien, pero el café es fantástico :)

Believe it or not, I didnt need google translate for this!

I have a long way to go, but im improving.

Muy bien, Chris. La inmersión es la mejor manera de aprender. Así aprendió mi esposa.

I'm a native Spanish speaker, but my wife who is a New Englander learned Spanish (before we met) by spending a couple of months in Guatemala.

They should have done it this week. No need for fake snow

Solía trabajar con azúcar crudo en los años ochenta y trabajé en un buque en BA y Rosario. ¡Me encantó Argentina!

Sí. Estoy aquí solo esta semana, y todas las personas con las que trabajo solo hablan español.

I came here in January and I didnt know enough spanish for it to be at all useful. Ive been using Rosetta stone since then to learn since it now seems that traveling here occasionally and working with people that speak only spanish is now a part of my job, but the best teacher of all has been being forced to use what I have learned because nobody in the office here speaks any English :)

When I was here in January I felt very isolated. I was a LONG way from home, couldnt understand anyone, and couldnt make myself understood. It basically left me feeling very nervous and vulnerable. This trip is MUCH better. I'm a lot less isolated now that I'm learning the language

Im actually really enjoying the challenge, and its probably quite good for my aging brain ;)

I probably sound like an idiot when I speak though, although I'm told my pronunciation is very good. Currently I'm much better at reading spanish than I am at understanding when its spoken to me unless they speak slowly and clearly, but my co-workers here are friendly, understanding, and patient with me. I've improved a lot since January but im anxious to progress to the point I can converse comfortably

I haven't made it to Buenos Aires yet even though its only about 180 miles down el río Paraná . We have an office there as well so I expect I will eventually go there. Montevideo, Uruguay is also on the schedule maybe later this year. I'm positioned in my company as the UNIX guy to modernize some of their aging infrastructure in the latin american branches of the company
