I don't know why, but last night this just jumped out of the deep dark recesses of my (all-too-random-access) memory:
Maybe 10-15 years ago I read a quote form a top-tier tech - whose name you would no doubt recognize (if I could only recall it): "I see all these vintage Les Pauls for sale listed as '100% original', and wonder what ever happened to all those DiMarzios, Grovers, and brass nuts I installed in the '70s".

Maybe all of the parts are in the 70's routed deluxes that you see so often.
Or they were wise enough to keep the parts and reinstall them.

Or they are in the bursts that haven't been listed for sale, or they were destroyed (nominally there are quite a few that haven't surfaced).

See.....
plenty of options if you think about it
