In Local store and they recently bought out a few guitars from a collector.

Two caught me eye and then my hands because of their really Light weight.
I have Telecasters that weigh more.

The R8 was a nice tabaccoburst , huge neck . light flame from 2007. Some dings and dents , but cool as hell. I'm familiar with most of the Historic lines , R0. R4. 7,8 and 9's of course. But this one was eceptionally light. Did they chamber back then?

The other Was a 2012 Gibson Custom. How does a custom differ from a Historic? This one was a Iced tea , 60's plain Top. Not a hint of figure. Looks exactly like Claptons Beano reissue I once played. Priced a bit more , not as light , but a killer guitar as well. Mint condition .

How does the Custom differ from Historic? I was thinking of these before I went to sleep and after I woke up. :fingersx:

That R8 may very well be chambered as they did exist in 2007.

A Custom is a model of Les Paul, like this:

Gibson USA makes one. The Gibson Custom Shop also makes a Historic version of a Les Paul Custom model.

Confusing, I know.

They did a run of chambered historics in 2007, what you played is most likely one of these. CR8 is what they called them, also, cloud nine

Ahhhh......I figured. This was is a light weight! But huge neck it was cool as hell. '

The other is a 1960's Gibson Custom like this:

Standard Historic 1960 Les Paul Standard

Identical except its a 2012 and its a plain Top. , I mean PLAIN TOP. Not even a silver of wood grain, but thats never been important to me. Neck was smaller , but quite comfortable.

They are both different , sound similar , weigh almost the same.

As of 2003 all LP Customs are made in the Custom Shop. But they had the same specs as they always did under Gibson USA. No long tenon.

The serial number on the back of the headstock will indicate if it's a chambered Historic or not.

All excellent Info. Big sale there today....(4th of July).....If they were just decent on a trade in value I'd think about it. But its rape city. There is always the 12 month 0% interest card though...........:naughty::fingersx:

Thanks to everyone who participated info here. Going to concentrate on the 60's reissue. It was light , but didn't feel nearly as feather weight as that 07' R8 chambered one.

BUT......armed with more info the R8 might be had much cheaper.

OK. I sat with them for a good hour. The 60 was probably the better value and its in better cosmetic condition........But I kept going back to the R8 Chambered.

Its been played but cleaned up nicely. Got 10% off, and they came up more then I expected on my Trade. Feels broken in. So I put the reminder on a 36 month 0% card. I'll pay it off way before that but at interest free Its no stress.

Really like the neck on this one. Someone loved it. Completely stock , all Tags in the case and the COA in the leather booklet. Thats a deal breaker for me.

Reminds me of Duanes LP. Same light flame and Tobacco burst. I'll get pictures up. :applause::slash::jb:

Big neck fan here too. Have you determined if the R8 is chambered or not? You can go by the serial-"CR" before the numbers-or open up the control panel around back and see if there are four solid walls (solid body) in there or not (chambered).

Looks great regardless!
