My #1 Les Paul is now with Historic Makeovers. Thanks to all for your advice in my earlier post about which guitar to HM. This is a 2014 Lemonburst R9 that was originally built as a Whitford CC26.

Going with the Standard Makeover. I love the fretboard on this guitar and I didn't see any reason to change it. Kim patiently explained the process and offered his advice as to what to do with this guitar. It's coming back as a dirty green lemon a la Grant and Johnson with some proper aging. Can't wait!

HM's before shots.

I'll be updating this thread as things roll along.

Looks like things are starting to roll. These pics were uploaded early this morning. It's a strange feeling seeing my guitar completely stripped. :Ohno:

That neck joint looks solid!

You can see where the CC serial number was sanded off in the cavity

I would risk unprotected sex with the guitar, just the way it was

But I'm sure HM would do a sterling makeover :slash:

Thanks fellas! I gotta say, I'm psyched!!!

Got this image today from HM regarding neck dimensions. They measured the neck a little thinner than I did. I prefer a thicker neck...Hmmm....Gotta think about this one....

They had no problem doing mine at or near an untouched spec.

I just had him strip it, minimal sanding, and that's it...you will loose a bit....but mine came back killer

I like that idea. I should hear back soon from Ken about other possibilities with the neck.

Vic, what were the before/after dimensions/profile on your HM?

It was 0.943 1st fret and 1.011 12th Pre HM

0.920 1st fret and 1.001 12th fret Post HM

It lost 4 oz

Factory wt 8lbs 9oz

8lbs 5oz post HM....

Thanks Vic. I had few email exchanges with Ken over at HM. He really knows what's he's talking about. Very impressive.

We're not going with the 50s profile because that's just too small for me and I'm not concerned about historical accuracy anyway. I want a fat neck on this guitar. He's going to keep the full C profile and bring everything in just a tad bit.

The HM 50s neck spec Kim did for me me last spring (called their "Uncle Lou") was quite a bit thinner at the 5th, 9th and 12 frets than what is shown here. Looks like he's using a different spec now.

I don't get it! :dunno: But that don't matter if you are satisfied in the end!

There are things I don't get too......like why anyone would bother to throw a comment like that on this thread. And you are correct, the OP is the only one that needs to be happy, which I'm sure he will be despite your confusion.

You said it Pappy, it don't matter. Let me put it in terms that a Loudoun-ite will understand - When this guitar comes back it'll look good enough to make a hound dog smile; it'll be purtier than a mess of fried catfish at the county fair, and wilder than a wildcat caught in a piss fire! :D

Don't feel bad Pappy, I didn't get it either at first. Hang around, you might change your mind.

Interesting. Thats the first I've seen that. I actaully always thought that the HM necks were smaller than that.

Subscribed. The color your getting is what I want to do.
