Please tell me that when you go out on your fishing adventures that you actually wear your life jacket the entire time you're out on the water!!!!!! If you don't, start!!!!!

They fished a guy out of the river yesterday behind me. 83 years old in a small, way less than stable boat. Found his life jacket floating right next to his capsized boat. Having a life jacket sitting on the floor in your boat just so you'll be covered if the game warden shows up doesn't cut it. The only protection you get from doing that is you won't get a ticket. It doesn't mean you won't die.

I acquired this habit back in my performance boat days when I really needed one. Thankfully it stuck and is second nature to me being on the water, kayak or boat. The idea of anybody, any age, any shape, being out by themselves without a jacket on is mind boggling to me. You just never know.

I sure hope you do it right buddy.

I take mine off when kayaking to be honest. It's a very gentle river though, and I'm with someone else. But solo, yeah I think a jacket is a must.

But hey, each to their own. I'm sure there are bikers here who ride without helmets too.

By yourself it's a must!! You think you can swim until that moment you unexpectedly realize you're underwater. Been there!

The thing many people don't realize is that upon tripping/falling for whatever reason
they might hit their head and fall in the water dizzy or unconscious.
That's when a lifejacket is so useful...
An freak accidents happen.
Just as an example, a guy I know frequently works on scaffolding and other risky areas,
always thinking safety first. The other day at home, safely on the ground (!),
he didn't wait for some wasps to go to sleep before spraying the nest.
About ten to twenty went towards him to investigate and he
tried to quickly back off, tripped himself with his own feet (!), fell on the asphalt and
dislocated his shoulder.
Stupid things happen.
