Hey all
I am still confused about pickups.
Do all pickups get stamped with a T on the bottom regales if the are bridge or neck .
I thought the T meant treble (for the bridge position and R for rhythm in the neck position.
May there are no R's.
I was told the T was so you'll know how to orientate them (like this edge toward the neck)
I have what I thought I was buying , a 490 pickup for the neck. but there is a T stamped on the bottom.
How would I tell???
thanks

A multimeter to read the k ohms, & pics to help you identify the pup would be great.
If it is a 490r, it should read around 8.03 or so.
This is a pic of my 490r hooked to a multimeter
Mine doesn't have any stamps that I can see, just Gibson.
Are you sure it's a 490?

This picture is of the pickup that is supposed to be a 490R for the neck position. The reading is within a 490R specs but that T is what has me confused.

The second one is definatly a burstbucker, but the first one i'm not sure about, it aint no 490r, the reading is too low.
I might have to agree with Ant on this one

regarding the 1st pick:
Gibson's site says that the 490R can range anywhere from 7.20 to 8.11
This pick up is in that range.
What does that 'T' mean that is stamped on the back?

2nd pic.
Thank you for that info. At least I now know what bridge pick up I have.
Looking at the chart it looks like a pretty good pick up.

Any thoughts about using these 2 together?
thanks

As far as the T goes, I really can't say, maybe someone who knows will chime in.
Using them together could be worth a shot, it can't hurt. My experience with the 490r was that it was mud city, no matter how I adjusted it YMMV, many people, oncluding myself would recommend a magnet swap to either an A3, or A5.
Throw em in & decide for yourself.
What guitar are they going in?

Just to save some time, here's a link to where you can get the magnets

addiction-fx | eBay

I removed the 498/490 combo from my SG, after all the adjusting, & mag swapping, I just couldn't get along with this set YMMV
Best of luck to ya
