Help with my Les Paul Custom

I’ve acquired my first LP Custom and having trouble with the serial number. Seems to be painted on? Any help would be awesome!

That is a decal used around 1975-1977 Norlin period. Looks intentionally obscured.

What is your trouble?

it's a norlin Custom. they are painted like that
No... this period was not painted or inked....these were waterslide decals. After application they were clear coated over. So it should be protected under the clear coat. It looks like it was marked over or it is a photo digitally obscured.

Thanks guys, my concern was my other standards had serial numbers that were stamped in the headstock. I’ll keep her didn’t pay much and she needs some TLC.
