Comes with a 92' Studio, should be 490 R ? There are no markings on the back like on the 498T in this guitar or the 490R/498T in my 98' DC, also the backplate is different to the others.:wow:

Is this an early 90' 490R ? Looks a bit more paf/patented/classic alike, depends to the backplate? the DC Ohm is 8.11 K

pls help :run:

could be a 57 Classic

Thx, man, for trying to help me, just felt somewhat overseen..dunno why.
The problem is, i dindnt know, wenn they started with the 490' pickup series, or with the classics ..the only thing i know is, that the guitar isn't modified since purchase..

I could imagine, that most question in mine where questioned before here, so ist almost difficult to start a thread about things like that, wihtout boring the "veterans" a lot. Its the same like in every forum.

But...whatsoever i should do? :hmm:

Definitely not a 57 Classic would have a PAF sticker or glue remains and brass screws, also at 8.11K would have been a plus which did not exist at that period. This pickup must not be a Gibson

It is a gibson pickup. Like i stated above, 92' Studio, no modifikation, i'm second owner since 94..that means, pickup is 20 years old.
Didnt you see the srews ? They are brass..

:wow:

I think a got a lucky hand the time i pick this guitar, curious Studio, like someone here told me, the wiring looks very fine better than usuall.
Pots are cts for gibson made...the mahagionyback is one piece..only 8.59 lbs.. mhm, wouldnt be so surprised, if it where another Pickup than an 490R.

There is also a chance it could be a 490 with a 57 classic base plate

I have a 1992 Studio with gold hardware also. Both my pickups say Gibson USA on the back and I am fairly positive they are 490R/498T. I don't know why one of yours would be missing the Gibson USA logo. Also mine have matching gold pole pieces, yours look chrome, don't know why that would be. Maybe the pickup was replaced and the old gold cover was put on it. The braided single conductor wiring looks the same on mine too.

The polepieces where gold, it's abrasion and the lightinfluence. the guitar is 20 years old and NOT modified.:thumb:

Maybe, gibson at that period takes what the have to complete some guitars ?
Like statet before, its also a one-piece back with a very clean wiring job. The whole treatmentment of this guitar seems very well, all the time i have thougt, this would standard for gibson manufacturing.
Think , i was lucky with that guitare, independed if it is a 490R or a Classic, both would fit in the 8.11 kohm measurement, its a fine pickup.

You have photos of your 92' couple 490/498 ?

greetz n' roll

p.s. just sent a email to the Gibson Custom Service Europe, expected them to say 490r/498T, like in the official specs. But how knows..

I didn't take a pic of the back of the pickups when I had them off. I just have a pic of the front. The gold color has tarnished in line with the pickup covers.
