Hey guys, I got this from a local dealer a while back. I know its a Standard, but on the back of the headstock it reads "limited edition." It has aged binding and plastics, gold tophats, and the epi logo is in mother of pearl...all of which are different from a conventional Standard. It also has a burst which the camera didn't pick up. It bursts from dark trans blue to an almost greenish color in the middle. Anyone know anything about this guitar, and why its "limited?" Also really want to know the year it was made. The serial number is in the pics (starts with a "U"...its hard to see). Thanks in advance!

It's a Transparent Blue Standard Plus Top, made in Unsung (Korea) in July 1996.

Thanks Davies, but what about the "limited edition?" also, i've seen some transparent blues before, but never with a burst into turqoise/green in the middle??? Also I can see how you figured July (07)but how about 1996? The 6? Y not 2006? just wondering...for my own knowledge.

No worries.

First the easy bit - if it was 2006 it would be 06.
As for the colour and the limited edition - I'm making an educated guess (because I don't know exactly when Epi first made each different finish) that trans blue wasn't a standard colour in 1996, therefore the 'limited edition' decal.

As for the actual shade - this is a mid-90's Korean-built guitar. They had... umm... consistency problems (pinch of salt required) getting even the control knobs in the right place half the time so to expect them to make a blue guitar blue is pushing it a bit.

On the other hand, it could just have been left out in the sun for a long time.
