Hey all,

I have recently inherited a vintage Les Paul after my fathers passing. I have been trying to identify its age and model, but the best I could come up with is early 60's SG, maybe. I need some advice from the experts here in identifying it if possible. I checked everywhere for a serial number but I couldn't find one. Where should it be? I want to give this guitar the respect it deserves so any help would be greatly appreciated.

What's the serial number on the back of the headstock? could be `61 or `62. i'm guessing late `62 by the Bigsby trem... but the # and as well the date codes on the pots inside would tell closer.
Are you keeping it or going to sell it? I think it'd be cool to have a guitar that your father left you, especially one as cool as that.

Thanks a lot TM1! So its an SG/Les Paul Standard. I swear I checked the head stock and didn't see anything but I will check more closely this time. I never thought of checking the POT date codes so I'll look into that too.
I haven't thought much about selling it, but I also have no idea what it would be worth either. Do you have any idea?
Thanks again.

I agree w/ the guys, you learning to play it - even just the basics - would be what your dad would probably have wanted you to do with it.

Beautiful guitar, by the way - a nice chunk of history.

Thanks guys!

The guitar is beautiful. I just wasn't sure what it was. When I was 14 my Dad offered me a 62' or 63' Gretsch Chet Atkins and said if I could fix it I could have it. I fixed it and have had it ever since. This lead to my career in electronics. He was less into George Harrison and more into Clapton at the time.

Cheers,

EM

OK. I'll bring it in to a pro. Do you happen to know of anyone in the Hamilton area who could help? I Just recently moved.

Ok, so I finally have the guitar at my house now to take a closer look at things. I did find the serial number right where it should be and it is 266986. Does this help narrow it down?
Thanks guys..
