Hey guys-

I need some advice here....I have the opportunity to get a R9 2007 Yamano LP or a 2001 R8. The Yamano is about $400 more than R8. The Yamano was handpicked from by a larger dealer has a hard eastern maple flitch matched top...very different and complex. I know 2001 was a good year for 58's but I'm not sure I like the Lemonburst. I can't play either guitars so...Can you guys help me decide...

here is the Yamano:

here is the 2001 R8...Lemonburst

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Don't even hesitate on this one...get the Yamano '07 R9. It's a much better deal...and probably a better guitar, for very little extra money. BTW, the top on that R9 reminds me a lot of an '07 Chambered R8 I recently sold. I loved the guitar and the top, but I had to let it go to make room for other, bigger ticket items:

Agreed, if the Yamano R9 isn't what you're after you shouldn't have much trouble selling it. I also like the top much better on it, and everyone knows, a good top = great sound.

I'm kidding, but I do like the top.

01 and 02 figuredtop R8s are very numerous, and Western Maple. Yamano R9s are cream of the crop and Eastern Maple.

That is what I have been thinking as well... Just curious what do you guys think is a good price for a 2007 Yamano? With the market the way it is, I want to make sure I'm not over paying.

As an owner of an 07 R9 Yamano, I say YAMANO!!!! Mine is the best feeling, looking, sounding Les Paul I've ever played. I swear they have an extra sprinkle of pixie dust.

The lemonburst is pretty cool, but the Yamano stands out in the crowd.

I'd go for the R8. The top looks great (I'm not keen on blister tops like the Yamano), they are pretty good guitars (but often need a setup before you'd know it), and although they made quite a few of them, I'll bet they made far less that 07 R9s.

Just how much money are we talking?
