I am curious about the changes in headstock shape on Les Pauls from the early 50's to the present day. I am aware that the headstock shape changed during the Norlin era, but I wondered when Gibson changed it back to a more traditional shape, and what other changes there have been over the decades.

On a related note, I know that Gibson changed the angle on their headstocks from 17 degrees to 14 degrees in 1965, but I have heard conflicting reports regarding when they changed back. '82-'83 seems to be the response that comes up the most, but I would like a definitive answer.

If anyone can provide a whole or partial answer, that would be great. If anyone can provide the title of any books that would answer my questions, that would be wonderful as well. Thanks!

Incidentally, I have a '65 Epiphone Olympic (Kalamazoo made by Gibson of course) and it is 17º.

I never knew that Gibson used the 14º headstock angle. I thought it was always 17º. :hmm:
