Headstock inlay different

i have just noticed that that my new standard plus has got the epiphone inlay on the headstock in gold rather than the pearloid that my 56GT has!

is this something that is common or is it something i should worry about???

Where did you buy it? There are some Epi LP's with the Epi inlay in gold but they were models made for the Asia market. Ishibashi sells an Epi LP Classic that has the gold inlay.

i bought it off a guy from germany i saw it on ebay but i bought it privately through paypal he sold it to me as a 'classic plus' but as its a MIK from 99 this pre-dates when the 'classic' in vintage sunburst so i thought it might be a standard plus??

Nothing to worry about. My vintage G-400 has a gold inlay while my friend's does not. It, like so many other things with older Epis, just depends on the factory and when it was made.
