Ok, enough hijacking of another thread. As you may have noticed, I am not a proponent of Epiphone's current head-stock design. To me, it is a Gibson design with clipped wings, unlike Epiphone's earlier design. But that is *my opinion*. Feel free to post your own, but lets keep it civil and respect everyone's opinion.

As much as I love the Gibson open book design, I think it should revert back to the early Epiphone design. It's close enough to the Gibson open book and part of Epiphone's heritage.

My question pertains to the current headstock on the current Les Paul Lineup (which I believe is the "clipped wing" design), and not other Epihone models past or present. I am referring to what Epiphone is currently manufacturing, not discontinued stock still being sold in markets around the world or used models available on Ebay etc.

The most important question for Gibson fanatics is missing...

"Should Epiphone stop producing Gibson based designs like the Les Paul and SG?"

Because lets all be honest here, that's the only thing that will satisfy some people.

Sorry, current headstock on the Les Paul lineup - I assumed because I've posted in this forum, it would have been obvious, but your point is valid. I'll revise my original post accordingly

I see only ONE here;

Les Paul

Am I missing something? They all look the same to me

The tombstone and open book were only recently available in the now discontinued Elite/Elitist line, were they not?

You forgot an option for "Don't give a crap".

The only headstock that bugs me is the Ovation ones, they are just plain butt ugly.

I have always felt that if Epi had used the Gibson headstock all along -- like they did with Epiphone Japan -- it would have made a world of difference. Since we can't change the past , they should start today and change the future.

like flogging a dead horse, but apparently, it needs to be hashed out every few months...

I honestly have no idea why these topics keep popping up. I mean, no one starts threads on Mustang forums griping about the shape of the rear-view mirror, and that's about the gist of it.

Or do they?

I'm not a "It has to be a curtain way head-stock" kinda guy. It is what it is and makes no difference to me. If the shape of the head-stock keeps you from buying a guitar that's wrong.

No. Gibson consider their headstock to be the symbol of their guitars and as such do not wish to use it on any non-Gibson branded guitar. The only reason they were used on the MiJ JDM guitars was to fight against those companies who were using it illegally. When that battle was won, the JDM only guitars were no longer produced.

Epiphones are not Gibsons and should not bear the trademark headstock of a Gibson. And if they did, they would have a negative impact on Gibson sales.

I'm satisfied with the way things are. Headstocks don't bother me much when playing.
