Has anyone seen a Les Paul finish like this?

Hi I bought a used 2002 LP standard some time ago, beautiful feel and tone. I was curious as to the finish on the back of it. All the LP's I've seen have an even color on the back of it. This one has a dark streak, probably something to do with the wood absorbing the stain unevenly. Has anyone come across ones like this?

That's the grain being different, not it absorbing stain differently.

Sure. I just scored a WW Select 60's Original that has some wild grain.

It's flawed, heinously and terribly FLAWED! It's a freak of nature, and I will send you $1, plus shipping to get that ugly monstrosity out of your sights forever! :laugh2:

Seriously, it's F-ing beautiful! Play it to death, and love it long time!

Hey thanks everyone for your comments....guess I just got a rare one. Apparently in 2002 they added nickel hardware, and a flame top (standards usually had chrome plating and a plain top) just to throw off competition. This one also has a one piece back. I got lucky.

Love it. It has character. As long as you can live with it, it s good.

When wood is plain and unfigured, people complain. Now when wood has character and shows figuring, people still complain? I think it’s fantastic, so unique! Love it! It’s a keeper!

I've got a similar look on the top of my Kauer. It's Ambrosia maple.
