I've done my fair share and they've all turned out to be nice budget guitars.

Results would all depend on the model and origin of the Squier.
Some bodys were made of alder, some agathis, and some even plywood.

I suggest finding out what you have before spending alot of money on upgrades.

Have you looked at the New Classic Vibe series by squier? I hear they are quite great stock, and have wonderful necks. I think I'm going to buy 50's strat and tele.

Also I would advise you to stay away from the affinity series if you are going to mod. I'm pretty sure their bodies are slightly smaller, and regular necks won't fit. Plus the standard and above are better guitars to begin with.

I'd love to read that.

I forgot to mention...
I've just sold my PS3 so that I could buy some more Squiers. I've bought a sunburst affinity and a vintage cream body already.

A friend of mine has a 92 Korean Squier he modified. It has a plywood body, but a very nice one piece maple neck. With locking Sperzel tuners it holds tune very well. He also replaced the bridge pickup with a high output Yamaha humbucker, which sounds good.

If your Squier has a plywood body it's probably best to go with higher output pickups to avoid the plywood (lack of) "tone" as much as possible.

If it has an agathis or alder body, It'd be compareable to a Made In Mexico strat.

Go for the "Affinity" models as they always have an Alder body.

:thumb: That's what I did. 2006 "Affinity" body, with an early 1980's scalloped Fender Strat neck. It works fine now, but I am going to be upgrading the bridge.

I used to buy MIJ Squiers all the time and put bigger frets and good electronics in them. They were great guitars that I used to find all day long for under a C note until people got hip to them.

I am currently in the process.

I'm trying to make a Blackmore style strat out of my squier.

I had a MIK '94 Squier strat I opened up with intentions to mod, lesson is, don't drink and try to relic a guitar. They're both stupid ideas, and combined, extremely stupid. BTW the guitar sounded like shit (weak pups, plywood body, shitty pots) so don't hate me :laugh2:

I bought this Bullet pre-modded. I'm not overly fond of basswood, but for a Benjamin I ain't complaining. GFS P-90's, Warmoth guard, CTS pots:
