I'd call myself a floundering guitarist. So far though, whether I prefer the lead or rhythm arrangement seems to be dependent on the song. But i like guitar sound and it's music very much.

Frank Hannon. Just love his phrasing and style. Tesla or solo, I love his work.
Jimmy Page
Alex Lifeson

To a different/lesser extent (based on eras or limited existing material):

Randy Rhoads. He did leave us some great riffs and moody stuff (think "Diary of a Madman")
Rik Emmett in his Triumph days

Neal Schon- he is one of if not my favorite guitarist. He can shred, but choses to do so in a melodic and not "show off" way. His solo albums have great melodies and his tone is one of the best out there . Really inspired me on guitar

Johnny Marr- I love guitarists that play well on clean. Just something amazing and simple but full about his playing

Tony McManus- acoustic player, very great.

In no particular order:

Neal Casal
Duane Allman w/early Dickey Betts
Derek Trucks and/or Warren Haynes
Jimmy Herring
Scott Murawski
Jerry Garcia - I don't actually listen to him much these days but I sound more and more like him... spooky
Trey Anastasio (he's one you kinda have to be able to listen to him all day to listen to him at all :laugh2:)
Mikey Savoulidis
Grant Green
Snooks Eaglin
Pat Martino
Jack Pearson - you could listen to this cat for YEARS and not get bored
Cornell Dupree
Pete Carr w/ Jimmy Johnson on anything that came out of Muscle Shoals
Shakey Graves
Tom Hamilton
Mike Stern
Marc Ford
Pat Metheny
Tim Palmieri

I've also listened to nothing but Charlie Christian for a week

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few...

There are quite a few guitarists here that I've never really listened to before... at least not with a critical ear... I'm gonna have to check some of them out. :thumb:

Dave Grohl, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain - a bit of singing breaks up the monotony :)

My first thought was Buckethead. That guy has covered pretty much every genre imaginable. I'm sure there are others that would fit the bill for me, but he"s definitely the prime example of a guitarist you could listen to all day.

More recently... Joe Perry.

That tone. Those licks. Could listen to him forever.

Permanent Vacation came out the year before I was born, my dad has always been a fan and so I've been listening to that album for as long as I can remember, so, quite naturally, Joe (and Aerosmith) are a favourite!

For hours? Not many. the only four I can think of that I actually listen to for more than an hour are Bill Nelson of Be-Bop- Deluxe, Steve Howe, Tuck Andress and Peter Green
