I just noticed the other night that for three weeks, I have been playing a wound 3rd string on my 175 that still has factory strings on it. Weird, I guess my pads are thick enough that I couldn't tell the difference in feel. :)

There is too much misinformation in the OP to bother picking apart. No offense intended, but I'd dispense with the whole thing and start over.

True, and it isn't very clear either hence my post to the string tension calculator.

They also played year round concerts and tore their hands up, thus switching to lighter gauge strings.

Why they did it isn't relevant. What is relevant is that they played light strings and had great tone so thicker strings do not equal better tone.

False. You are making the assumption that what worked for a famous player must be what is correct for everyone else.

Thicker strings and tone is dependent on the guitar and the player.

Tone is also dependent on the person who is hearing said tone.

Yes for bending its much easier

long scale= easier
sort scale= harder
:)

*dont need to edit

Still wrong.

Short scale bends easier. 24.75
Long scale bends harder. 25.5

Gibson is short scale
Fender is long scale

Gibson=Less tension
Fender=More tension

Gibson=looser feeling
Fender=tighter feeling

(it's really not that complicated to understand)

Copying and pasting misinformation off the internet does no one a favor.
