Made a trip to the beloved guitar center today.I am off work on vacation and I bought an acoustic from them about a month ago,and I received athank you gimic from guitar center in the mail few days ago stating they thank me for my guitar purchase and as a "thank you" gift form my business if I bring the supplied coupon along to guitar center and make a purchase of $15 or more I may have my choice of either 1 free pair of drum sticks,1 10' guitar cable,1 10' midi cable,or 1 set of guitar strings. So I bite.I go there, purchase a $19 set of bass guitar strings for my bass guitar, and at the checkout I hand them the coupon I received in the mail, and set down along with the coupon and bass strings,a set of Elixr Nonoweb acoustic guitar strings which I was supposed to get for free per my coupon they mailed me as a thank you.The young lad checking me out(Matthew ) says I am not gonna give you this expensive set of strings ,I'll give you some D"Addario's or something.I told the lad and showed the coupon which does not specify any certain brand of guitar strings or dollar limit or set of there choosing. He gets an attitude and tells me he will not do it.
So now I am just still a bit upset over this ,even know its not a big deal,it just pisses me off.I guess I will just watch the nice peter video song about guitar center on you tube a few times and email guitar center and attempt to see if I complain enough,if they will honor the coupon they mailed me and maybe give me an additional coupon for my trouble and poor service by there sales official.

Yep. If it didn't say, then you deserve the expensive strings. And yep, I'd call the mgr. too.

There's two in my area...one I'm cool with...the other I don't like at all....

If I end up doing what I think I might...I may be dropping a large wad in one of those stores for a special order...(must...resist!!!)

I hope they're not all like this. I went to one in Orlando last week. Asked the guy who immediately leapt upon me when I went in, "Do you have any Les Paul Juniors"?. His reply - I kid you not - was - verbatim, "Never heard of them."

??? :hmm:

Update on this guitar center incident

I emailed guitar center headquarters back when it happened and explained my disgust with the way my wife and I were treated by the guitar center sales staff.I then received an email stating they apologize for any inconveinence and will be contacting me shortly on this.Well that was all back on July 14th ,and I was never contacted as they stated they would.
So last night I sent the email back to them reminding them that they never did contact me as they claimed they would, and this morning i receive a call from the guitar store manager where the incident occurred. He apologized for the long wait(since July 14th)and stated he is the NEW store manager there and that he cannot give me any appropriate reason for the troubles I had and stated that he talked to all the store employees about this kind of thing and he agrees with me ,and this should not have occurred. He is sending me the set of strings I originally wanted to me in the mail and stated he does not want to lose me as a customer over this and he promises this will not occur in the future and if I will continue toive visit the store he would gladly see to me personally ,just ask for his name Trent ,and he promises he will see to it I am not treated in that way.
Hard to say, could all be bs,but he is sending me the set of elixr string to my home and did sound sincere. He stated he is the new manager and he just was forwarded my email 15 minutes before he called me.
So,my opinion of guitar centers sales staff overall, remains the same with me,but I will give this guy an opportunity to run the store with dignity.

Well good for you giving them a chance. A couple mgrs. of GC have been really good to me.

GC's are really funny-I think their performance is totally dependent upon management and if the sales dude or dudett know or care about much-

I have had some great experiences and some complete BS experiences.

I do try and support the little guys whenever I get the chance-

none of the little guys either can or want to compete with the sale prices I get on D'Addario 10 packs of strings--

I use GC as a place to get good deals on beat up, close out stuff-

I prefer to support the BGR Gregs, Eddie's Guitar, Greencastle Music Center's (my home town mom and pop) of the world-

Roseville. It's not as busy. And granted, the selection's not as good, but what do I care? Can't play most of the guitars they sell anyway.

2 other reasons I prefer that store...

1. The guitar folks that work there aren't a bunch of uptight pricks. The counter guy is actually pretty cool. If you want to buy something, they're more likely to work something out with you.

2. I had a bad experience with the Sac one. I bought a set of EMG's there for a Gibson...the sales guy told me "Hey...no ZW set in stock, but these should work"....oh lo and behold, I needed long shafted pots! I came in the next day...they pretty told me to go pound sand and that they couldn't help me. (and the guy who sold me the EMG's...HE HAD A GIBSON HIMSELF...he KNEW I needed those f'ing pots!)

I bought a guitar from those assholes as well (and it wasn't cheap). Think I get any friendly reception there? Hell no. To this day I will not buy anything more from them other than strings and maybe a bottle of cleaner or polish. It's not GC so much as THAT PARTICULAR STORE I have an issue with.

Cocksuckers....

I have a theory- all GC's suck, its just a matter of how much they suck.
