I started noticing it maybe a year ago,...maybe less.

But lately I've really noticed it.

Every page I go to is covered in tiles, if your mouse hovers over a tile it expands automatically. If my mouse goes to the left or right side of the page a menu pops out, if I'm at the top of the page menus pop down...

It's f**king annoying!

Sometimes I can't even find a 'safe' place to click on the page to make the page active so I can scroll up and down with the arrow keys.

I know, clearly this is a pilot error and I'm an idiot, but more and more web pages lately just have awful, cluttered, sh*tty, pop-up filled designs.

Tiles and pop out sh*t everywhere.

And while I'm b*tching, when I pause the video to read the article, DON'T KEEP RESTARTING THE DAMN VIDEO I DON'T WANT TO WATCH, OVER AND OVER!!!

...I hit pause/stop for a reason, I want to read the article.
Plus it's a 5 minute video for a 30 second story. No thanks,..stayed paused you bastard. Quit overriding what I tell you to do.

So concludes todays rant.

They're all loaded up with so much junk these days. And I can't stand it when a video starts and you have to hunt for it on the page, just to shut it off. Don't these designers realize we're listening to music when we surf the net?

You can thank JQuery and Windows 8 for a lot of that. If used correctly, JQuery can be awesome, but if over used, it's annoying.

And I hate when I click on a news article from Google news or some other place, and it's JUST a video with no article.

@Lucid

I hate that too, I just close the tab without watching. I prefer to read information instead of having it read to me.

Also I hate that Facebook is everywhere and so many places want you to log in with either a Facebook or Google account.

Things are feeling,....constricting,...lately online.

That's a pretty good example, only make the left and right side have pop out menus to match the one up top. (...to be fair the one up top waits a second on hover before popping out. Some sites pop out as soon as the mouse touches.)

Yep. It's tablet, phablets and smartphones.

New Google maps sucks.

There's somewhere else besides the MyLesPaul Forum?

I hear ya. I use my scroll like crazy. Both on my laptop and work PC. I NEED a safe spot to click or I can't move the damn thing. Or at least I think I do and feel uncomfortable when I can't. :laugh2:

just.....poor designs and layouts on a lot of pages lately.

Don't even get me started on what Google did to Youtube. Horrible interface now,...only able to log in like 10% of the time. It sucks. Hate isn't even a strong enough word to describe my feelings for Google atm.

I don't really get the, "Change things,..just because,...even though everything works fine" mentality.

"If it ain't broke we'll keep f**king with it until it is!"
..seems to be the new way of the web.

Maybe.

I just appreciate things being well designed.

Whatever it is, ... from a car to a toaster,..I like a good, intuitive, well thought out design.

Not the clusterf*ck of BS that the web seems to be becoming.

I think MeKevin is right,..the net is now pandering to the phones and tablets. (as well as Facebook/Twitter/Google)

...which sucks!

and Tiles are just ugly. They're the ugly 1970's design of the computer design world. Next week the web will have wood paneling on the walls, thick gold drapes and shag carpeting.

...it'll be hairy too.

The 'touch screen' model may be the problem. Catered to tablets/smartphones.

The whole page is a booby trap for misdirection. I know what you mean. An amplification of the disregard for the concept of customer service. You're a fly in the web. A sheep to be shorn. Not a 'client' or potential customer. The 'how many ways can I ensnare you' philosophy. So fvck you. And me. That's the idea I get most of the time anymore, unless it's a face to face.

Yeah, it's all about hitting you with targeted ads and monitoring what you do.

I got a cool add on called Disconnect that blocks all the data requests,...it's frightening sometimes when you realize just how many people are trying to get your browsing info.

For example...

while reading a Huff Post article,...it blocked 86 requests..

175lz6.jpg

Now what happens on MLP? A place that really does run on Ad dollars? How many blocks?

kcjtao.jpg

I've read articles that had over 150 blocks before.

That's per page,...that's just thousands and thousands of times people are trying to steal/spy/poke around? ...however you want to look at it, every single time you're online.

Maybe I am getting old, but in the late 90's the net was just flat out 'FUN.'

It didn't seem so monetized and squeezed down. And you didn't feel targeted all the time.

It just ...was.

People made pages and put 'em up. Some of 'em sucked. Some were really funny.

But it felt like a new frontier.

Now it feels like I'm always on a Corporate Server looking at Corporate Software.

...which still wouldn't totally suck if it didn't have a horrible design and layout with tiles and pop ups everywhere.

Hi all you old folks

Malikon, what extension do you use to block requests?
