That sucks, Nicky, but unfortunately it's part of the deal. My wife used to work in hospice; while hospice isn't just for those who are dying, the majority of cases are those who are and the kids were the toughest cases. I don't think you ever get used to it, but you do get better at dealing with it.

[SC][/SC]I'm pretty sure Nicky may be the proudest parent I've ever encountered. It's nearly baffling (but good of course) ... In today's world our youth get little to no encouragement/praise. She's a product of good parenting.

I know. I overdo it sometimes.

I appreciate that you always cut this old man some slack. :)

its just who you are Nicky, and its nothing in the world wrong with that. If every parent were as proud and encouraging as you, the world would be a much better place.

Thoughts and prayers to you, your daughter, and the victims. Terrible.

UPDATE: Daughter #2 had a good day. Evidence that her team processed led law enforcement to the suspect. FBI tracked him down in another state.

I shared all your comments with her, and she is very grateful for your concern. She says not to worry.

I know she is strong from your posts...From one father to another I worry more about you.. Father's heart...Sometimes we bear their pain more than they do because we know what life is and shouldn't be... God bless her for her work because through her strength justice may prevail.. Through your strength Nicky we have her out there doing her work. Thanks.

Nicky, I'm glad that there are people like your daughter out there doing the "dirty work" of bringing the scum bags to justice. Thank her for me, and thank you Nicky for raising such a squared away daughter. It just rips me up when little kids are harmed, makes me want to hug my three year old granddaughter and never let go.

Daughter #2 just advised that she adopted two older dogs who were about to be destroyed by the city. Seems there are few takers of older dogs these days.

These dogs' owner passed away a few weeks ago, and no one would take them together, or even if split up.

If this is how she is coping with the violence of her job, I approve.

All the best to her.

She shouldn't "go over" traumatizing stuff too quickly if eventually it accumulates.
Psychological debriefing can help in many cases.
It doesn't for some people who do better on their own but iti has to be considered.

But she should put herself first and make sure she doesn't "shovel it back" because that could come back to aunt her at some point.
"Don't be afraid or ashamed to ask for help" is what I would tell her.
Because if she takes care of herself, she will be able to continue helping,
if that's her motivation.

Thank you for all your comments and support. Daughter #2 is a badass scientist and investigator. That's why she was chosen to lead a team. She has passed all the psych tests and has seen a lot of shit in her year and a half at this crime lab. But, you are all correct. It is good for her to vent and talk about it with friends, family and professionals. She is doing all that, and I wish her great success kickin' ass on the bad guys.

Anyway, thought you might like the gift I sent her to encourage her at work.
