That's unfortunate. To put it simply.

Best wishes, I can honestly say she is stronger than I.

Nicky, I hope she and you both can take some comfort in knowing that what she is doing is in honor of that poor child by helping to bring to justice the perpetrator/s of that awful crime. That is one outstanding woman you have raised Nicky.

I respect anyone who helps bring justice in this world. I met a lot of people in the legal system. They hear and see all of the worst news, every single day.

Stuff with kids always bothered me the most. It sounds like she is open and able to express her feelings, which goes a long way when trying to cope with this sort of thing. We had things called Critical Incident Stress Debriefings where they would bring a Psychologist to us when bad things happened. Perhaps she has a similar resource available through work?

Sending good thoughts her way!

Prayers for her and what she does and goes through.. Some people are drawn to doing certain things with their ambitions and talents, others just wish they could... I couldn't do it, but glad that there are people like her that can. Hope she can clear her head and move forward..

Hats off to her for doing such an important and difficult job.

Professional counseling would be in order I think.

God love her, I can't imagine how proud, however concerned, you must be. It sounds like she has the maturity to vent in the right way such as communication with loved ones and counseling that a lot of people in the same type of biz completely shun. Many turn to the bottle or to a complete double life. She's way more mature in dealing with this stuff than a lot of others. I wish her the best, and my hat is off.

Caleb, if I'm not mistaken, you have seen the outcome of violence like this in your line of work.

We really appreciate your comment.

I can't even imagine what it would be like to actually be at a crime scene and see those things. I've seen nasty photographs and I can handle that fine but the actual reality of it I can't comprehend. Your daughter is very brave.

I hope she works her way through it.
I also hope she uses all available aids to help her through it.
Definately a tough thing to handle. Not everyone could have composed themselves and dealt with it in a professional manner. That's for sure.

Yeah I have. And in years past I wasn't nearly as wise as your daughter. For a while I thought therapy meant finding the bottom of a bottle of Jameson. I was too dumb to know how to talk to anyone besides coworkers who were just as addled as I. I screwed up some relationships, constantly dodged calls from family, all the dumb crap one shouldn't do. That being said, I was always just some guy who staggered into this career field by not much more than chance. In contrast, your daughter, Nicky, seems to be a natural born professional. Doing and handling everything the correct way. I will not be surprised at all when she is running the whole show at her workplace one day.

I've mentioned to you before Nicky, our daughter did her graduate work in forensic science. In the end, she decided not to work in the field. It was the right call, for the reasons you mentioned. She now works in the biotech industry and doesn't have to deal with the depravity of mankind.

The world needs more people like your daughter, and you.

I figured out, in HS, that I was too squeamish for any profession that involved blood. It was also a convenient excuse to avoid admitting that my grades were not good enough, either. I will keep you and your whole family in my prayers.

So glad she is doing something she likes, ST. Tell her we're proud of her, too!

UPDATE: Daughter #2 had a good day. Evidence that her team processed led law enforcement to the suspect. FBI tracked him down in another state.

I shared all your comments with her, and she is very grateful for your concern. She says not to worry.

BAM! Nice job! Tell your badass daughter #2 that your marginally qualified police detective online buddy says he is damn happy for her.:thumb: Ain't nothing like putting a bitch of a case in the rear view mirror.

[SC][/SC]I'm pretty sure Nicky may be the proudest parent I've ever encountered. It's nearly baffling (but good of course) ... In today's world our youth get little to no encouragement/praise. She's a product of good parenting.
