His recommendations are all tube amps

And all 3 are quite good. I currently own the Blackheart and it is a fantastic amp for the $200 I paid. I like the AC15 very much also, but prefer my Fender DRRI a little. I would like to end up getting an AC15 anyway.

I tried the Peavey VK and it just never did anything for me.

I'd say go with the classic 30 or 50. I played an epiphone goldtop through a classic 50 at my local store not long ago, and it was just beautiful!

I tried those AC's. Crap, yeah I want good cleans but hardly no distortion? Fuck that. Not impressive to me at all, unless you own 600 pedals...

Yeah....I'm not a big AC fan either because of the lack of gain....what's the point in spending that much on a tube amp and needing to use a distortion pedal.

I have always loved Peavey amps....but you have to try out the guitar you are buying through whatever your amp choices are.......

If you are going to be dropping $$$ on a new guitar and amp same day, pick up a good cable too....if they have old shitty cables out for you to demo...use your brand new monster cable when trying out the amps.

In what capacity will you be using the equipment? I have a valveking head for back up and I forgot how much I never really bonded with the thing until my other head went PHHHH...zzzzz...appp and its now in the shop and the peaveys back on my stack.....

If your just screwin around in the house I would seriously check into a fender tube amp. Doesnt matter if its 5 watts 15 watts etc there really great amps. It also matters on what style of music you play.

I bought a little vibro champ for my livingroom (being in my downstairs studio alone I feel disconnected from the fam) its 5 watts, cranks loud, clean is sweetness and it can pump a decent distortion sound. I can also plug into a half stack or smaller and it does very good....not like gigging good however lol.

If you can swing it the blues jr is super...probably my next amp.

Like eggs and bacon, Jimmy and Robert, Jacko and Bubbles, the only true amp for a Les Paul should be a Marshall!

I owned a Peavey Valve King for about 2 days. I really didn't like the sound once I got it home. If you plan on using the overdrive channel, be aware that there is a short delay when switching channels. I returned it after only two days and bought a Line 6 Vetta II which I ended up selling for a Marshall DSL. If you have the cash to spare, I would get a better amp.

Take a good look at Fender Tube amps- imho, the best "Bang for the
Buck" - Custom Vibrolux and '65 Twin reissue comes to mind- to name
a few! :)

I'm hoping that this one comes out soon...

I'm playing a Tourmaster right now, and I love it, but for $500, this one should be really nice.

I just bought a Traditional (Ebony) a couple weeks ago - you should be happy with that axe; soon after I ended up with a Line 6 Spider Valve 112. A great combo that sounds very nice, esp. clean which is what I was after. The DSP can be bypassed to go straight into the tubes if desired, but the front end can sound very pure so I do not bother anymore.

I can't say enough about my Fender Hot Rod DeVille, it has two channels and ALL the power you'd need even for a small gig. New they are around $800 but I've seen several floating around Craig's List for $500.
$540 is cost in case you can sweet talk an employee into getting it for you. :thumb:

Another vote for the Blues Jr. or the Hod Rod DeVille. I've seen DeVille's on Craigslist for $400. They sound great clean or dirty, plenty of power, all the features you need, and very reliable.
That being said- I've got a 1980 Boogie Mark II that I picked up for $800 on Craigslist. I don't think there's an amp out there anywhere that can touch it for less than $2500. Keep your eyes open, the good deals are out there- lot of motivated sellers out there in these tough financial times.
