Hey guys after my vacation I plan to go look at a Custom 1968 reissue in triburst and I was wondering a couple things before I waste anyone's time. First I have never owned a custom before and I am looking for a guitar to gig. The guitar I am going to look at has the 60's neck I am not sure of the exact year of it. Is there anything good or bad about these reissues a guy should know? Obviously if I am happy with the feel/sound I will want to buy it but is there any QC flaws or know issues with this RI design? Is $2500 a fair price for one of these? It is all original and by the pictures appears to be in great shape with original case and candy. Any input on these run of guitars would be great. Thank You

$2.5K for a used LP Custom is a pretty fair price, especially if it's in good shape and comes w/ohsc and case candy. The '60s neck profiles vary, and are personal preference. If you like it, and it's not too heavy (some of the originals topped 11 lbs!), then get it. Keep us posted.

The RI will have a lot more vintage era correct specs. The 68 was the first year for the Custom to be made with the maple cap, and it will have a long tenon neck connection.

60s neck means it's the exclusive guitar center run right? I think that's a pretty fair price for one. I love these, I haven't played the gc one but the regular ones are awesome.

I have the exact same guitar. 2006.

It is the best guitar, I've owned, or played.

It is a GC exclusive. Its not really a "reissue," as its not period correct. I don't remember what all the differences were, because I honestly didn't care. Its a Les Paul Custom, regardless... with a 60s slim neck. Oh, yeah... and it comes with the '57 Classics, versus the 490/498 combo (HUGE plus, IMO).

I paid $2800 not quite a year ago, and every time I walk into GC, someone asks me if I want to sell it (we're a not a big town). The original owner still stops in, to see if I ever brought it back. I told them to tell him, he'll never see that guitar again.

You should know that I'm going to be jealous :D
Seriously, it sounds like a great combo of looks, neck and pups. Go for it :thumb:

I am still waffling as I found a great looking mid 90's Standard that is a little more what I am really after. I am looking for another gigging guitar and this Standard fits the bill and is $1000 cheaper however the Custom is a guitar I have always wanted to own and I am sure will be a better guitar. The sad thing is it will get beat up a little gigging and I am not sure I want to take a excellent condition custom and start wrecking it. However if I never plan to part ways with it what does it matter. UGH! decisions.

That's the thing. Yeah, the Customs are gorgeous high end guitars, but they were made to play. They were most definitely made for that.

I had one that was a great instrument with a fantastic top. The guys at the local shop told me not to sell it, but I did anyway because it was more than 10 pounds. I still debate if that was the right move. My R0 is 8.5 pounds ... I don't know why the Customs are so heavy.
