7 year old niece, friend's 5 year old son, both died of cancer. I did the only thing a guy could do, grew my hair out to the middle of my back (took nearly 5 years), did a fundraiser through work last year for the Canadian Cancer Society to shave my head, donated hair to Wigs for Kids.

Poor timing for the fund raiser, because of COVID and people worried about job security, I only raised $1,500 but better than nothing.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in. I’m sorry for all of your losses and I send the best for all who are fighting the fight. Our friend is home now and says she’s going to fight it. Other than that we’re giving her space to process this with her family.

Very sorry to hear. Would be nice if cancer died a horrible death in the pit of hell. As its taken two of the women in my life. Would love to be the one to pull the trigger and blow cancer all to hell. I hope your friend gets better.

Last night one of my employees passed out at work. She is one of my favorite people ever. More than an employee she is a beloved family friend and has spent countless nights and weekends with my wife and I, our kids, my wife and her friends. We went in to check on her and drive her home, she's older, maybe her blood pressure flared, who knows. When we were talking to her she never seemed to be quite right. We called her daughter and made the call to send her to the hospital because we were that worried. We were thinking stroke or TIA. Her daughter called us this morning and it turns out she has cancer EVERYWHERE and had no idea. This is a bright, vibrant, and hilarious woman who woke up yesterday morning with no clue she was sick at all. Fuck.
So sorry to hear that I lost my grandmother to cancer 14 years ago today it affects everyone im so sorry.

F! indeed!

Have a theory that only nice people seem to get cancer.
While people who have been pricks their entire lives, live to a ripe, old age!
I'm with you. My grandfather was the prime example. My grandmother was a saint and cancer took her at 72. Her husband was a complete prick and an alcoholic/chain smoker from the age of 15 and he made it to 85.

Yuppers, took my Dad at 68--DAMN GOOD MAN
But yours was even worse: 64

That's just gutting!

Beyond the ken how it could have spread throughout her body and she still reports to work?!?!?!!!

She was back at work tonight. Thank god or whatever you look up to I don't know personally, but I think when you get that news ANYTHING in your life that can stay normal becomes very valuable. When my dad got diagnosed he renovated a dilapidated apartment building. Cancer schmancer, he was going to swing a hammer until his body told him he couldn't.
