But I've always used an electronic tuner. I think I've generally spent most of my focus toward looking at the needle on the tuner and then moving on to the next string rather than actually hearing it. My ears could definitely use more training. Maybe if I had it to do all over again I would have used tuning forks. Heck maybe I still should try it. It just comes back to time for me though and what's plausible in terms of getting the most out of my time.

Even with an electric tuner, your ears tell you the guitar is out of tune. Also, tweaking may be necessary mid-song in live situations (especially on smaller stages where the tuners can get bumped). I've used a pedal tuner for the last 5 years, and still check tuning the old fashioned way half the time.

I'm actually old enough to remember when tuners could (and needed to) be calibrated. I went my first 10 years of playing without owning a tuner, because everyone's electric tuner was different. I'd just show up, and tune to the rest of the band.

I remember those days. Everyone in the band had to have the same exact brand/model number of tuner pedal or they'd be off ever so slightly.

...I'd forgotten all about that.

Oh Gawd...now that I've hit 50, I'm finding myself falling more and more into the 'kids these days' bunch  FFS whats next? A white belt and tucking my shirt into my underwear? :hmm::applause::fingersx:
Easy solution for that....don't wear underwear :naughty:
