I am still looking and saving to purchase my first Les Paul.

check out some of the MLP Vendors like Marks Guitar Loft. You can outstanding LP's from them.

If I've learned anything at MLP watching New Guitar Day posts it's that the members I see get guitars from MLP Vendors really seem to get some killer looking LP's,..better then the Guitar Center/Musiciansfriend type offerings,.. somehow.

$499 will get me a hella nice Epiphone.

your better with an epiphone or Agile ( i prefer agile ) than a Chibson . at least there is a quality control , a warranty against defect . The illegal warehouses were the chibson are built can be raid tomorrow . the reviewers call us stupid to buy Gibson for thousand of dollars but they send 400 $ in the dark to a china website for a guitar that might be full of flaws or just get nothing at all if the warehouse get raid .

still the funniest about these chibson .. buyers said they chose that alternative cause they cant afford a thousand dollar Gibson ... BUT they all end up owning 3-4 of these junk . Go figure .

id pick agile or epiphone way before chibson . n-e way you have to tell people its fake sooner or later or just look like a plain idiot when someone will tell you .

theres no prestige in having Gibson Write on the headstock of a guitar .

Yes gibson are expensive .. but used you can get one standard /trad etc.. for around 1500 $ .. dont tell me its somehting impossible to have in a lifetime . In the end , you can only play one at a time .. so id rather have 1 great guitar than 50 junk .

I know a guy who has 43 guitar .. but all sammick , hammer , tracer etc.. and under 100 $ guitars he find at pawnshop . I wouldnt trade 1 of my gibson les paul for his 43 guitars :)

Some people don't understand quality over quantity. Like you said, I can only play one at a time. This has led me get rid of all the fluff in my collection. Only ones I kept are the ones I couldn't live without.

Funny vid, hard not to cringe about some of the "cheapo" Chinese practices like, certain wood choices, multiple piece bodies and mismatched plastics though.....

I also love the guys that knowingly buy a knockoff just to "show everyone else" how bad it is, like the counterfeiter gives a crap where the money comes from.

Then puts in 4 hours of labor setting it up to play right and jams away on it. Hmmm... wonder what he does with it now?

Sorry...just had a big cup of cynical flavored coffee I guess.....

The only thing that would cause me distress is the truss rod and wood materials/quality. Every epiphone other than my 59 epi I replaced all hardware and pickups so I imagine someone with a Chinese guitar would do the same.

There're a load of knock-offs on the Facebook groups. Most being sold as copies but 'better than the real thing' however after they've changed pretty much everything on their guitar they're still stuck with the crappy wood. It's as bad as Trigger's broom (for non-UK members see this):

Why bother buying a Chibson and upgrade the parts? Why not use that money and get a used Gibson or a Studio or something?

I had the idea of getting a PRS SE and upgrade the parts at one point but after working out the costs, I could actually get a new S2 or a used core. Plus all that money in parts you chuck into a Chibson it is still a Chibson. It's one reason I gave up getting a PRS SE and went straight to core PRS (4 of them!), save yourself time, money and it even give you bragging rights.

Lets just put a end to the notion that everything that made in china is crap, although I admit the stuff that finds its way to the states often is. America provides the market, that a few unsrupulous buisinessmen take advantage of. Morrally is that much different from a buisinessman of American lifestyle company foisting a 30% price hike on its customers. Guess what they have in common....greed ?

btw There are some very good chinese made guitars around, they don't say Gibson on the headstock and are not touted on ebay

anyway its cool that mlp draws attention to the tells on fakes, education is the key. I always feel bad for any young guys who saved hard to buy the real thing and unwittingly get stuck with one of these things

These are obviously low-quality instruments. But, honestly, it's not even really worth arguing the quality of the guitars. It's illegal and immoral to sell guitars that say "Gibson" on the headstock that weren't made by Gibson.

If you don't care about it being a real Gibson, get an Epiphone. Don't support these thieves who are making money off of the reputation of someone else.

I think 90% of the Chibsons are bought to make A/B comparisons in youtube. Please stop it, we are aware, we don't need a weekly update of 100 news guys posting the same A/B.

And yes I agree the real victim in all this thing is the 15 year old kid saving his money thinking he will get a good enough guitar for his money. He won't, and it is a hard learn lesson.

Some douche from England got pissed at me for telling him that the Chinese Chibsons were junk. He said that they are really nice guitars and was promoting them by giving the link to the site he bought them off. He's an idiot.

Understood.

Now's a good time to post this.

I upset my first counterfeit Gibson YouTuber a few days ago.

This guy posted a video of himself excitedly hopping in his truck and running down to the post office to get his knock-off Gibson. I will coin this excitement "Chibby Chubby".

Anyway, Chibby Chubby Guy got home and unpackaged the guitar, Ohhhing and Ahhhing all over it, his Chibby Chubby probably throbbing so hard he was getting lightheaded. I made a comment thanking him for bringing yet another fake instrument into the US. I mentioned he was part of the problem of the many fakes in the used market. I invited him to come over here and register, then make a post showing us his find. I don't think he'll do it.

Chibby Chubby sent me a nasty YT message, telling me where to go and what to do with myself.

These guys are really something.

Apparently.

This particuar "Chibby Chaser" said the following:
I will explain it to you in simple terms. I have now 96 guitars in my collection. Old Gibsons from the late 50s, early 70s, 80s, 90s and 2011 -2013 Les Pauls. I also collect Old Fenders,ESP, LTD,Schecters and more.. If you actually watched my videos you would have also seen videos on Epiphones... Les Pauls with AAA tops, Explorers (goth) and more..
Now to answer your question as to why the Chibsons. At $300 dollars the Chibsons are a well made guitar requiring little if any work. They are made at the SAME plant that Epiphones, Schecters, LTDs, Cort and more.. Yes, thats right... at the same Plant. You are dealing with China who does not honor Gibsons nor anyone's copyright laws...
Now, Do you own a Chibson? If not then you apparently didn't do any homework prior to posting your views. Not many people want the Les Paul Epiphone headstock... Personally i could care less. But many like the Gibson Headstock but cant afford the high price of a real Gibson....

This show was designed for players who cant afford a $500 guitar and have to slowly build a guitar that they want...hence the Chibson which in my eyes plays and sounds better than most Epiphones and are on an equal playing field finish wise with Gibson.

'...that guitar is an utter piece of crap....'

nuff said
I agree and buying one is just unpatriotic too.If China was any good at making guitars, they would not have to use the Gibson name.

Like relic owners, they will make excuses all day as to why the have one.
