Interesting. I like the look of it.

To my eye it looks as though the extra cut-away was a custom mod to the guitar after someone bought it. From the pictures it appears to me that the cuts are not symmetrical and slightly deeper on the upper cut-away.

I wish there were better close up shots of the neck joint from various angles as well as the horns themselves.

None-the-less I like the look of it.

I have that guitar, everything looks legit, except the other cutaway!

Never seen one like that before....

I thought that about the second cut also...guy says he conferred with Gibson and has e-mails to prove it....they say it is legit and must have been a custom order.

As long as Gibson provides a certify of authenticity, no problem....don't trust the emails.

Its a cool guitar, nothing spectacular and a bit dark, but cool.

Gibson won't provide a COA on a used guitar.

Believe it or not, I had one of these in the 80s, I loved that guitar, and I've always kept a lookout for one like it- and yours is the first DC like mine that i've seen, plenty of single cuts around, and even the solid slab 335 shape types- just a simple but effective guitar. It's legit, wish I had pics from back then-

no, I might have mis-led you in my OP....this is not my guitar, it is for sale....I, of course, would like to have it.

I have a 1978 The Paul and love it....they are great instruments.....but I have absolutely never seen one in a double cut like this, but I swear, this looks factory, to me.

Is this the one from eBay with the 'recess' on the bottom horn?

I had some exchange with the seller who said that Gibson had said it looks genuine. However, I'm not convinced as, as has been said, it doesn't look quite symmetrical. It's a darned fine job though.

The 'recess' looks very much like. Strap button has been removed, which would suggest its been used as a lefty. This also makes me think its an after sales mod. If someone wanted a lefty Lee Paul, and was asking Gibson for a custom job, they would surely just ask for a lefty?

it is, and I thought the same thing about about the 'recess".

I do think the left horn looks slightly different in some pics, but for what he is asking for it, why make something up (it is very reasonable...or would be if it were a normal "The Paul")?

I don't believe the guys making it up. I believe that someone at Gibson has sent him an email dying they believe its genuine. I'm just disagreeing with Gibson :)

Didn't someone chime in and say they had that exact guitar back in the day?

In the meantime it looks like these "The Paul's" are gaining interest. I have one and can see why. Hardcore I can see you would want a second one too!

I am camping this weekend and all I can think about is getting home to my The Paul!

II think that poster was just referring to a The Paul....not a double cut.

enjoy your time away dude, then play the hell out of it when you get back...makes it that much sweeter.

right you are... i was viewing this forum on my iPhone and didnt see that he said he had the same guitar but it was the first time he saw one with a dc.

cool looking guitar but it breaks my heart there is one less all original The Paul out there - is the price reasonable?
