I've been on the gibson serial number page and found the PDF file about serial number listings and structures. It has listings up until them mid 70's, then I can't find anything else. Are there any searchable databasses you can just punch in the serial number and get a year and model result. The PDF said the structure after the 70's was:
YDDDYPPP
YY is the production year
DDD is the day of the year
PPP is the plant designation and/or instrument rank.
70108276 means the instrument was produced on Jan.10, 1978, in Kalamazoo and was the 276th
instrument stamped that day.
I don't get this, because of the first 0. does 0=jan?
I'm trying to find these to LP numbers:
#92496393 and #031970401. This format doesn't make sense because 92496 would be 1996 for the year, but 249= DDD? Then the 2nd # I posted is 9 numbers so that just throws out everything i've read. If someone could help me or point me in the right direction i'd appreciate it.
