From my own research on the web, having the same interest as you re Firebird dimensions, but not having one to examine:

"the middle section is 4 1/16 " wide and 1 1/2" thick.
The "step" off the face of the middle section to the "wings" is 5/64" while the "step" off the back is 7/64".
Now for surprise number two:
The "wings" have a thickness of 1 5/16" next to the center section but they both taper down to 1 3/32" at their sides.
The taper goes from center section out towards the side edges of the guitar only."

I also found a photo that confirms/demonstrates that taper.

Hope this helps.

From the picture it seems that the taper is only for the top, which seems logical to me on an ergonomic point of view. Can you confirm.

I knew the wings were tapered, also, the taper is symmetrical front and back. Both the front and back of the wings are tapered equally.

Dougie, are you sure that the front and back are equally tapered?
From the picture posted by stratified, it looks like the back is flat.
And having all the taper on the front seems to me more comfortable.

If you still have your Firebird, can you check, please. Thanks.

I would say the back is definitely tapered, it is just more planar to the camera shot.

Those dimensions seem right, other than the difference between the drop from the centre. It doesn't look as far on the back as noted, but again could be an optical illusion.

I would like to know the thickness of the walnut plys. They look to be about 1/8" with a 1/4" mahogany inbetween??

I believe this is probably a re-issue but I think it shows the taper on the back and the plys quite clearly.

I'll have to revise my thoughts on the thickness of the plys. I scaled a pic and they are way less than I thought. Seems like the walnut is probably 1/16" on each side of 1/8" mahogany and the centre section looks like it's about 3/8". Can anyone confirm this? Thanks guys.

Here is a pic of my scaled dwg.
