Gibson not doing 50's/60's profiles anymore?

Somebody told me that Gibson stopped using 50's and 60's profiles on Les Paul Standards and Traditionals as of 2008. Is that true?

What did you hear they'd been replaced with?

Nope. Mine is an 09 with a 50s neck.

Well the Standard since 2008 has been given an asymmetrical neck which is neither 50's nor 60's.

As i understand profile is the thickness of the neck while the "assymetrical neck" is reffering to the way the neck gets wider from first fret to last.So i guess a guitar can have a 60s neck yet asymmetrical at the same time.

The Standard has the asymmetrical neck - Asymmetrical actually means that the shoulders of the neck moving from dead center of the back of the neck towards the fretboard are not the same on both sides. The back of the neck is thicker on the side were your thumb would rest, and thinner on the side closer to the floor while playing.

The Traditional typically has the 50's neck and the Trad Pro typically has the 60's neck. There are exceptions to this though, and the new Trad Pro II has both.

That would be a taper. The asymmetrical contour indicates that the backside of the neck does not have a consistent radius.

I could be wrong, but that's how I understand it.

He must have been talking about the asymmetrical neck. It was a seller on ebay.

That means that we will play just the laminated fretboard?

This is correct. It just means the neck transitions from round/thick to flat/thinner. The centerline of the neck does not change.

Not trying to hijack this thread but it looks like any new model gibson made this year like the 2012 studio,jr,special, mahogany trad, classic custom, midtown all has a 60's neck . Why not make them also with 50's style neck look at the classic plus you could get 50's or 60's neck what one sold out first the 50's just saying
