Everyone knows studios suck. Anyone looking at buying one should save up more money and buy a standard, regardless of whether or not they like the studio.

If you like that studio, ignore your instincts. Don't buy it. You can get another one that you've never played off ebay for $100 less. Or, you can pay roughly twice what it's tagged at and have a standard. All standards are far superior to all studios.

SURELY you are being sarcastic.

I have studios, standards, historics ,pre-historics , customs, SGs, Vs, strats, Charvels, and Jacksons. I have a 91 Studio that sees as much playing time as any of them. The legend of the early 90's Gibsons is well known and in my opinion right on. 91 vs. new.....91 any day.

My 91...no guitar gets this much playing wear if it sucks........

I guess the extra bling on the standards give the guitar the sweetest tone known to mankind? So with your thinking if someone adds binding to the body and neck it would move the studio from "SUCK" column into the "Sweetest tone known to man" column.

Here's mine.

Wow, is that ebony fb? Never seen those on a LP Studio before
Early 90's studios (only white and black if I recall correctly, but don't quote me on that) came with ebony fingerboards. They're great guitars. The 90's were a great era. Glam rock had the last nail driven into its coffin, people were putting down their synths and picking up guitars again, grunge and 'alternative rock' were in their prime, and Gibson was making some good guitars.

:hmm: Sounds about right to me.

Here's a vid I did to compare my guitars...you can *clearly* hear how the studio sucks and the standard is amazing...

Uhm... I think we can all agree that no one is finding a good used LP Standard for $825. No offense or disrespect to Blackie2, but either you're dealing in a different currency, or you just happen to be the luckiest SOB in the universe to find an LP Standard for that price ; )

Now install the pickups from the Studio into the Standard and then the pickups from the Standard into your Studio and do another comparison. This should really point out how much the Studio sucks.

Agreed. I paid $1100 for my '92 (played, but nice shape, original with no fret wear), and I considered that to be a darn nice price. $825 is middle of the road in studio territory, with newer used studios fetching more, and worn players fetching less.

I have had plenty of playing time on them to assess them as is. In fact, I did just that a little farther down the page in that thread. I'll save you the scrolling:

I had an disagreement with quit a few people on another forum. That you could find a Studio with a broken headstock repair for 300.00 at GC or less all day long. I informed them that they were full of hay and water and produce the link for such deal. They couldn't and just told me that they sold too fast for GC to put pictures up on their used site.

This.

I paid $320 for my '95 studio, which had a pro crack repair in 1996 after the original owner left it unattended leaned up against an amp. I bought my '92 standard thinking i'd be blown away (considering how good the 'lowly' studio was). Every guitar player I knew that picked up that studio was practically foaming at the mouth waiting for me to decide to sell it to them at a nice price after I got the standard. Funny thing...I had to tell them all that I was keeping it.

They're different, but equal. The studio is a little thinner and more of a raw player. It's top wrapped (out of necessity) with the tailpiece dropped down against the body. Frets are taller than the standard, action is a little higher. The standard is set up very traditionally and plays amazing. Action is low with no buzzing at all and it plays like a dream. They both sound great, though a little different. They both resonate like crazy.

I'd pay the $320 again for the studio in a hearbeat. I'd pay 3 times that for this guitar.
Thanks.. that extra scrolling of the mouse wheel would have killed me :)
Hey, i'm a team player. :D

'

That's a private sale.. which you can get deals like that but not often. I purchased my 2004 SG for 250.00 again it was a private sale.

I was telling them they were full of Crap getting them from GC for 300.00 or less all day long.

Dollars in a Dutch store? What is becoming of this world  ??

How much is it in Euro's ? The average price for used studios is about €600-650. Anything above that is too expensive. Got some pictures? Or a link to where its for sale?

Je moet via marktplaats voor 500 euro een studio kunnen vinden.

Oh and there shouldnt be any difference between a standard or studio, they are build the same way with the same wood. Only difference is esthetic

Those early '90's Studios are some of the best guitars out there. Couldn't hurt to try to get the price down, but either way if you love it pull the trigger. You'll regret it if you don't.

I have a '97 and its has a very unique twangy/vintage bite to the tone, i havent heard it on any other les paul I played so far. I agree that the older studios are great guitars :)
