I’ve been thinking about picking up one of these for a while. I always loved the TV Yellow color. I’ll probably wait until I get another GC 15% or 20% off coupon to buy.

I looked at a used Special a few months ago and liked the chunky neck, the hand-wiring, and the P90 sound. I probably would have bought the used Special, but the store was asking a near new price, for a used guitar with a couple of battle scars.

Curious if anyone owns one of these and your thoughts on the guitar?
Thanks ahead of time.

I have one... bought it from a fellow MLP member. Jump all over that. It is light, the P90s can whisper or roar or anything in between. The neck is a bit chubby, but I can handle it and actually prefer it on certain days ... which is quite often...

It has the wrap around tail piece that some people don't like, but I have yet to experience any tuning problems.

Last year for their Thanksgiving sale, instead of a standard coupon, GC had a sale where you put what you wanted in your "wish list" by a certain date. Then later they email you a coupon for that specific item(s) in your wish list. I got a 17% off coupon for a P90 Gibson LP Classic Player Plus that I really wanted that was already on NOS clearance pricing resulting in an extremely low overall price. I purchased it instantly. If you can hold out to November, I recommend keeping an eye out for something similar in a couple of months from now, as I have not seen a regular coupon in a long while that was good for any Gibson, Fender, etc.

That’s the plan. Thanks.

This thread is well timed! I’ve been GASing for something with p90’s. I see these TV Yellow specials gets listed for $1070 on guitar center used but not much lower than that. What’s a good price for one of these used?

Did they announce the wish list on their website? How do you get notified about it?
I usually get ads from them but didn’t see that wish list thing last year.

if youre feeling poor look at the epi version, its also pretty nice and right around 400 bucks.
That Epi looks really nice. I think that I like the solid yellow color better on the Epi than the transparent yellow on the Gibson, but I’ll probably hold out for the Gibson.

I was debating on the epi, still might get it just to scratch my p90 itch if I find a good enough deal and then upgrade to a Gibson. I really liked this comparison between the two. For the price, the epi seems to get surprisingly close to the Gibson and is probably the better value but the Gibson wins out in the end, as expected.

I currently have a Gibson, which I love. However I sold an Epi version to buy it. I have to say if I was doing it again, I would just keep the Epi and maybe upgrade the P90s.

Whichever you go for, you will love it!

I do not think it was announced on the website. I had my eye on the '18 LP CPP last year as I knew it would not be around much longer since it was a NOS clearance item. Typically, GC does a "20% off" for Black Friday and "15% off" for the rest of the long weekend including Gibson/Fender. Lat year, they did not do that, though. Instead, I got an email about their wish-list sale about the first week of Nov/2020 or so. It had dates in it that you had to have the stuff in your wish list by a certain date, and then on a specified date they would send you the coupon that would be good only for that day. The "specified date" was a little before Black Friday, so I was wondering at the time if there would be a better deal for Black Friday/Thanksgiving weekend ... there was not. On the "specified date" they sent me the coupon for that guitar (17% off) along with a 48-month 0% financing offer on it. I jumped on it in the Antique Burst which was sold out a couple of weeks later, with a wine-red finish available for a month or two later. I changed out the black plastics and knobs, left everything else stock.

That is a gorgeous Les Paul, even more impressed at the deal you got.

Will look out more closely this coming Thanksgiving. I’m looking at a p90 guitar too.

This guitar is the first P90 guitar that I really had a chance to deeply explore to see if I really like them or snot. I have single-coil Strats and Teles, but those are totally different. I have ended up really deeply bonding with this LP with P90s, just a killer guitar. It ended being an amazing purchase for sure ... my "poor man's historic" (LOL).

That’s awesome, glad it turned out to be a special guitar. I’m hoping for the same. I never cared for p90’s, always had my tele with single coils and my LP with humbuckers so I didn’t feel the need. Then I picked up an SG Junior at my local store and was blown away. It was def a different sound, nothing like my single coils or humbuckers. The snarl and growl with gain, while still retaining clarity and sensitivity to the volume knob was something amazing.

I’ve been waiting for years for Gibson to add this exact guitar in a double cut back to the production lineup. DC version has only been a custom shop model for so long.

Im a Gibson snob but the Epi is tempting…. 399 to have a TV yellow special to mess around with sounds like a bargain. Only problem is I’m afraid I’ll want the Gibson version a month or two later like you…. :hmm:
