Understand that I'm not a PRS fanboy, I'm a luthier. (OK, I make guitars...very fine ones.) PRS quality standards meet MY standards. Gibson's quality control and attention to detail leaves much to be desired but I never see a PRS with any such flaws that I can find even on close inspection.

Whether you like PRS guitars or not, their level of attention to detail and quality control is at the very highest level in the industry. That's simply the truth.
Fun fact, Paul and the other leaders will go grab random guitars off the shipping line and inspect them every Friday in a meeting, everyone who works on a specific guitar has their initials inside the cavity and its documented. The level of detail is insane at PRS and I saw it when I visited. It was a super cool experience.

While your local guitar store employee may have heard one thing, Google hasn't heard anything about layoffs.

And if Gibson was laying off folk, it would be reported in the Nashville press, which has previously reported on Gibson layoffs.

Remember - Gibson is both a large employer in the Nashville area and a big deal in the music business. Having been bailed out of bankruptcy by a private equity firm, if there were layoffs coming, you'd read about it in the local press. For example, when 15 workers were laid off in 2018, there was an article about it.

So, given the lack of reporting, this is where the dog that didn't bark has more credibility than the one that did.

Maybe they're only firing Mark Agnesi?
Was in my local guitar store today & they were talking about supply chain issues across the guitar sector - it was mentioned that Gibson were laying off staff again, due to above said issues - didn’t know if anyone in the US had any info on the current state of play at Gibson & how things were going?
How about they stop making so many variations of models from the custom shop and concentrate on what people want and then maybe they would possibly even recognize the amount of LEFTYs who play actual lefty and covet some of the great work that they do
Do … A Trini perhaps??? An Sg Custom 61 or 3 ???AFirebird??? Cmon man give the people what we want Even if it has to be custom ordered!!!

Are you really putting credence into what some local guitar store employee says? Especially when it’s negative news that could only cause discouragement to possible buyers? Give me a break.

This is like getting investment advice from the dude at 7-11.

They're literally up to their ears in backorders with 4-5 years of production ahead of them plus they've expanded at a great rate since JC Curleigh took the helm at the end of '18. Demand exceeds supply, what a great situation for them to be in given the recent covid times.
Laying off of staff would be a rumour.
Too all the guys bagging on Mark, HAVE YOU EVER MET HIM!?

I met him twice at Norm's and he didn't know me from Jesus... Yet he treated me well and answered all my stupid questions about 335's.

....I just get bored with all the "Tar and Feather" crowd.

I only check in here every few months, I'll let you guys get back too it. I'll head back over to TGP for the next PRS's / Modeler / Heavy Guitars / Light Guitars/ suck thread! :laugh2:
I agree. Not sure what he’s done to these people, but they certainly have the hates for him. Never met the man, but he seems knowledgeable and entertaining. He’s certainly ambitious and a hard worker. So let’s all just lighten up.

If they're having supply issues, they should produce a new model that utilise supplies that are available.
Maybe they could start making Les Paul's 'Log'? or revision thereof with available materials??

We could call online stores "fake" stores. The convenience of digital and internet is clear, but what is missing? "Why care about various guitar brands when you can tweak sounds digitally?" is the younger mindset.. Why cart about heavy meat- world equipment Amps and drums, when you can just fake it all? Today's musical "superstars" are more like actors, pretending to be musicians.

All the nuances of a real guitar or real drums etc. is of little importance to music business today. Even film scores today are using fake orchestras.

Subtlety seems to be lost and lyrics have turned to gibberish.

On a forum like this people can discuss all the subtle differences and it matters. But reply from today's younger people is, "Ok Boomer..." pretty funny really.
Interesting to note that this has been a repeated pattern with 'technological advancements'.

Remember High Fidelity Stereo recordings?? Compare them to the compressed Mp3 kids are used to listening to.

Remember how good a landline house phone sounded & worked? Todays rural cell phone use sux ballz. I have one friend whose cell phone at home works so horribly that I literally can't stand to talk to him because every other sentence is garbled or inaudible altogether!

And the cheapest US PRS is priced with the high-end production model Gibson.

Comparing the two is like comparing Gibson to Fender... though even Fender is up there in price on the USA models now, and the MiM are more than most Epiphones.

If you want $2400 SGs and $3500 Standards, feel free.

Having said that, I've got 4 Gibsons from 2019 to 2022 and none have any QC issues. The SG has an incorrect neck angle, but that's apparently not uncommon and appears to be more of a design issue than actual QC.
I've bought 25 Gibsons the last few years. 1 issue on a Classic (finish flaw) so SW swapped me a new one.

Who are all these people buying screwed up Gibsons? Buy from good sellers and that will eliminate 95% of your issues, or 1 in 36 for me (2.7%). Maybe I'm just lucky. (36 if you count the Epiphones too. So 26 bought Gibsons 1 return, 10 Epiphones.)

It's become a bit of a joke and I don't think anyone seriously considers him to be a bad guy (at least I hope not).
He's got a tough look and assertive voice, and that can put some people off.
Ultimately, anyone with half a brain knows that the whole "Play Authentic" video was not his doing.

But his name pops up when rumors myths about Gibson are shared because of the rumors that he was fired after Gibson pulled all of their YT content.
Of course, it was just a prep for some reorganization of their content.... but the assclowns when ape over it.

So we have fun with Mark, and at least in my mind, it's good natured.

Having been in corporate management for years, I can say with certainty..."It's the management". Gibson's greatest period was under its best management. The more corporate BS they inject, the worse it gets. The work environment, the product/service, the whole deal. You spend all day in a corporate process that has nothing to do with your job or the mission. Its all work for the sake of work. Fire the management and make this about building instruments again and I would bet the problem is quickly solved.
