Was in my local guitar store today & they were talking about supply chain issues across the guitar sector - it was mentioned that Gibson were laying off staff again, due to above said issues - didn’t know if anyone in the US had any info on the current state of play at Gibson & how things were going?

Not so long ago they were quite back ordered, but maybe if they can't get supplies in to the point that it's holding up production, maybe it's a temp layoff situation?

They’ve raised their prices enough that I don’t think there’s any fulfillment issues anymore. Looking at Sweetwater for standard 60s and 50s it looks like they have more than they want to keep in stock now, which was not the case 6 months ago.

So they are getting themselves into a demand problem.

Ya, I don't think it was 6 months ago they were pretty actively recruiting.

They have at least 30 job openings posted on their website right now. Unless they just lost 30 people, it seems like they are looking to grow?

I'd hope that if they are laying off staff, they're laying off the ones whose workmanship, or lack thereof, is the reason why Gibson gets slammed for having below standard quality control for their price point.

I wish that the group that controls PRS had bought Gibson during its bankruptcy phase, and implemented PRS quality control measures in Gibson's operations.

Gibsons built to PRS quality standards....that's a dream.

They just bought Mesa Boogie and are probably firing redundant support stuff, webhamster etc.

Word from Mesa is that things are pretty much business as usual. Gibson's management team knows they've got a genuine premium brand with Mesa and they'd be stupid to mess with success. While in the Henry J era, they might have tried to do that, under JC's management Mesa is left alone to do what they do best, in the way they do it best.

Mesa has been in operation for over 50 years and has never once been in bankruptcy even in the leanest times. But Gibson and Fender both have had bankruptcies and corporate change of ownership multiple times. It's clear which business has a better track record of running a tight ship.

Gibson can learn from Mesa. And hopefully they WILL.

They're literally up to their ears in backorders with 4-5 years of production ahead of them plus they've expanded at a great rate since JC Curleigh took the helm at the end of '18. Demand exceeds supply, what a great situation for them to be in given the recent covid times.
Laying off of staff would be a rumour.

On the other foot, I can't belive the search function worked. :laugh2:

If they're having supply issues, they should produce a new model that utilise supplies that are available.

They could, but then they'd be fighting off a lawsuit from Lego like Fender is.....

That's nonsense. How would perfect joinery of wood parts, an impeccable fretjob, a flawless finish, and a perfect setup make a guitar sound sterile? I know you're trying to be funny but it's not working very well.

I don't care for PRS pickups. Not even much of a fan of their wiring options with their pickups. But put in a good set of Lollars or Duncans and you can bring a PRS to life.
