For you a summary of Gibson headstock to early '900 to early 1992.
Enough precise but obviously there are some exception and overlap in production mostly between late '60 and early '70.
N.B. I'll cut off in '90s because i don't have enough knowledge from '90s to present production.

1908 to 1928 circa

On certain models in late '20 looks like this

From 1928 to circa 1934

1935 to 1944

1944 to 1947 same but slanted

1948 to 1951 dot link to G - Open b and o

From 1952 to '67-'69 circa - In my opinion "The perfect Logo"

1969 to 1972 without dot - old style logo

1968 to 1972/'76. Closed b and o.There's some overlap in this period between dotted or non dotted so,new logo and introduction of headstock fiber veneer. A pair of pics

1970 thin logo (circa 1976) to 1980/'81 - Fiber veneer - Closed b and o. A pair of pics

1982 to 1992 not all models. Fiber veneer slowly start to fade out in circa 1990 but not sure. Please note upperlink between closed o and n

Forgot the "art deco" Gibson script that was supposed to be on Moderne headstocks in 1959.

Silkscreen logos - Low end models

White from 1928 to 1943/44

Gold War era logo - This type is called "Banner logo"

Post war logo, 1947/8 to '60s found on various guitar like Melody Maker, Les Paul Jr, Special, Lg0, Lg2, Sg Jr, Special, ecc, ecc...Note the dot link to G

'70 Gold logo - Decal instead silkscreening. The dot still linked to G

'70 Black logo - Note 3 screws truss rod cover, found on some instruments in casual way during Norlin Era. I've personally checked a pair of Dove, some Grabber bass and one es340tdn with this feature - Dot link to G

'80 Gold logo - Decal instead silkscreening. The dot still linked to G

Thanks a lot guys! I've posted a little story of the Gibson headstocks for reference, but there are many models with particular logos and script, lap steels, Banjo, Tenor, Custom order guitar ecc,ecc... Any help is welcome!

Maybe another sticky? I've seen a lot of Gibsons either misidentified or labeled fakes due to people's ignorance of the many logo variations.

It is a good thread. I was thinking of tackling this issue a good while back, but I'm too nit-picky. These are very good, generalized examples, but there are many more tiny little variations that would just drive normal people(non-Virgos:laugh2:) crazy.

Legendary thread. As Boles says there are countless minor variations on these general logos. And some Gibson's had their own specific logos - "The Gibson Guitar Company" logo on the Sonex for example.

which parts/areas of this axe were made of fiber veneer material? (did you mean the whole the body and the whole neck?) And also what does "fiber veneer" mean bros?
does it mean the finish? or does it mean a sort of mahoganny compressed powder?

Great thread, very interesting.

2011 L-1 Robert Johnson acoustic. Gibson got close to the 20's 30's period style but I don't think it's exact.
